MSJE Parent & Student Handbook 2021-2022

Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,

Please join the MSJE staff in the celebration and recognition of our amazing 2021-2022 volunteers! Many thanks to all who helped MSJE during this year of transition back to in-person learning. We appreciate our parents, guardians, and community volunteers who helped with PTC, FAME, Contribution Drive, Chess, Yearbook, Math programs, 6th Grade promotion, School Site Council, Health & Safety Committee, Book Fair, and Classroom Support. Part of what makes MSJE the amazing school it is known to be is the collaborative partnership between school and home. I look forward to welcoming more in-person volunteers on campus next year and urge all parents/guardians to get involved. Our final PTC meeting of the school year will be on Tuesday, June 7 at 6:00 PM, in-person in the MSJE Multi-purpose room. Please join us to see how you can get involved to help support the AMAZING STUDENTS of MSJE.

In Partnership,

Katy Carter, Principal

While all of these resources are fun and kid-friendly, remember to encourage your children to get away from the screen to build, explore, create, and read.

6th Grade Promotion Ceremony

We are thrilled to be holding an in-person 6th-grade promotion ceremony this year to honor and celebrate our AMAZING 6th graders.

When: Monday, June 6th, 2022

Time: 9:00 - 10:00 AM (doors open at 8:30 AM)

Where: MSJE, Multi-use room

Parking: Please plan to park off-campus. Limited disabled parking is available.

This year we will be limiting audience attendance to two seats per promoting 6th grader. (Younger siblings may sit on laps.) Tickets will be given to each student during the week of May 30. On June 6, 6th Grade students should arrive at the beginning of the school day (8:20 AM) and report to their classroom. Photo opportunities will be available after the ceremony from 10:00 - 10:30. Students must return to their classrooms by 10:30 (by this time all parents will leave campus). The 6th grade Promotion social (for students) will be from 11:00 - 12:20 in the Multi-use room. Students should be picked up at the end of the short school day at 12:20 PM.

6th Grader Promotion Dress Code:

Saying Good-bye is Hard to Do

At the end of this school year, we will be wishing Ms. Doreen Gow, Mr. Prince Padania, Mrs. Vaidehi Madabushi, and Ms. Ruscher the best of luck on their new educational adventures. They will each be missed by MSJE staff and students.

Elementary Report Cards and CAASPP Student Score Reports

Elementary report cards and CAASPP (SBAC, CAST, and CAA) student score reports will be available electronically in your Illuminate Parent Portal this summer. Paper versions of the CAASPP student score reports will also be mailed home to families in July/August 2022.

Here are instructions on how to access your Illuminate parent portal. If you did not receive an access code, you’ll need to contact your school office as soon as possible. School offices are only open through Thursday, June 9th. If you don’t get access prior to the close of the school year, you will have to wait until offices reopen on Tuesday, August 9th to receive support.

If you have any questions, please contact your school office.

Medications at School

End of Year Medication Pick Up: Many of our students have a supply of medication at school. A parent or guardian is required to pick up their child’s medication(s) by the last day of school, June 6th. Medications cannot be released to students. All medications left after June 6th will be disposed of.

Medications for 2022-2023 School Year: If your child needs to take medication during the school day, proper medication form(s) must be completed by a physician and parent. The Form D (Medication at School) or Allergy Form (specific to medications related to allergies, e.g. epinephrine, antihistamine) are required for all medications, including over-the-counter. A parent may pick up the forms in the school office. They are also available on the district website.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.

Counselor's Corner

Greetings MSJE Families,

Summer break calls for an end-of-the-school-year celebration. As we reflect, I hope you and your children can feel comfort in what we accomplished as a school community this year. I have been so impressed by the patience, flexibility and resilience demonstrated by our students, families and staff during this school year. Summer is a great time for students to connect with friends and family, rejuvenate, and create special memories.

As we move into summer, I would like to provide you with activities that can help your child continue to grow. It can be as simple as picking up a good book to read. Here are social-emotional learning activities you can do with your child while having fun over the break. Have a great summer and I look forward to working with you next school year.

Best Regards,

Ko Vue
