Mission San Jose Elementary School
43545 Bryant St. Fremont, CA 94539 [MAP]
Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,
As we conclude 2021 and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make MSJE an amazing place to be. We are a thriving community thanks to the generosity of and partnership with our families. On behalf of the MSJE staff, I send my thanks and appreciation for the holiday cards, goodies, and gifts that were shared. I am hopeful that all MSJE families can enjoy some downtime and relaxation over the winter break.
As the new year begins, safety continues to be our number one priority. As there are still many uncertainties regarding the status of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are still adhering to the MSJE Site-Specific COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Guidelines. As many families look forward to traveling during the holidays, I would also like to reemphasize that we are strictly following the Covid-19 Holiday Travel Guidance. We ask that all families plan accordingly and notify the school office of any domestic or international holiday travel plans in order to keep our school environment healthy and safe for all. In response to requests from many in our community to increase access to At-Home COVID Testing Kits, Fremont Unified School District is participating in a program from the California Department of Public Health to provide free at-home test kits to all interested students and staff to use before returning to sites in January 2022 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 (more info below).
I wish all MSJE families a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season! Happy New Year!

Please read the below message regarding quarantine independent study options.
Dear Families,
We know that many of you have had to quarantine your student due to COVID symptoms. To ensure that we have continuity of instruction, and support students during this time, the district is offering short term and long term independent study options.
Per Assembly Bill 130, students who are quarantined due to COVID symptoms and will be out of schools more than 3 days, will continue to receive educational opportunities through a short term independent study contract. When the school district requires a student to quarantine, a student/family will be given a packet of grade level work and a short term independent study contract to complete. When the student returns from the quarantine, the completed packet and independent study contract should be returned to the school site.
In the case that a student has been quarantined for longer than 14 cumulative days, a student/family will be offered a long term independent study contract. Long term independent study will be conducted by a virtual teacher. The child will attend online classes daily for a check in and assignments will be given. Families will be given two links. One link for the Parent Agreement for the Long Term Independent Study and one link from the virtual teacher. The Parent Agreement is a form that must be filled out in order for your child to participate in long term independent study. We appreciate your compliance with completing both documents.
Best Regards,
Leticia Salinas

Estudio independiente durante cuarentena
Estimadas familias,

Leticia Salinas

Parents/guardians will be notified if their child is referred to either of these programs.
In response to requests from many in our community to increase access to rapid COVID-19 tests around the winter break, Fremont Unified School District is participating in a program from the California Department of Public Health to provide free at-home test kits to all interested students and staff to use before returning to sites in January 2022 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Participation in this program is optional, staff and parents/guardians of FUSD students opting in to this program are asked by CDPH to report the results of their tests through an online portal or by phone.

1/10/21 Update: Out of an abundance of caution, the 2022 elementary basketball season has been canceled. As of now, we can still look forward to a spring soccer season.
We are thrilled to announce that there will be a boys and girls basketball season this year (for 5th and 6th grade students). To ensure a safe and fun environment for students to participate in basketball this season, the following regulations should be adhered to along with the typical regulations already established.
Given the nature of basketball being an indoor sport, all student athletes must be COVID tested weekly (Mondays from 7:00 - 8:30 at MSJE) regardless of vaccination status. If students do not test, they will not be allowed to participate in practices or games. Negative test results must be shared with the coach, weekly.
Interested participants must complete and submit the following forms to the coach (Mr. Lee) prior to tryouts:
Game Regulations / COVID Safety:
Each student is allowed one spectator ONLY.
If a family has siblings who are both participating, the sibling can sit with the spectator. All spectators must wear masks.
Masks must be worn by all students who are NOT actively participating in gameplay.

Happy New Year! During this time, many are inclined to reflect and make plans for the year ahead. One highlight from December was our successful food drive. We donated 660 food items to feed our community during the holiday season. Please continue to encourage your students to find opportunities to spread kindness to their communities.
This month’s character trait will be focused on “PLANNING AND DECISION MAKING”. When students plan ahead with making decisions, they are able to consider various options before selecting the best outcome. Students will have many opportunities daily to make good decisions. At school and at home, we encourage all students to reflect on their choices to ensure they are safe, respectful and responsible. There is a 3 step process that students can follow when making decisions: 1) STOP: Breathe to calm down, 2) THINK: Think about the choices and weigh the outcomes of each choice, 3) CHOOSE: Choose the best option.
This month, I will be offering a workshop focused on time management for 5th and 6th graders. Students can sign up using this link or in the counseling office. Space will be limited to the first 15 students who sign-up. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you!
Best Regards,

Next PTC Meeting: Tuesday, January 11, 7:00 PM
