Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,
The air has cooled, the leaves are falling, and it's starting to feel like the Holiday Season! This can be an exceptionally busy time of year. Students will continue to benefit from consistent bedtimes, activity schedules, and other daily routines.
With a focus on gratitude, I would like to acknowledge all who contribute to the amazing MSJE community. Special shout-outs go to:
MSJE teachers for always putting the academic and social-emotional needs of students first.
MSJE support staff for working as a TEAM to support students and families.
MSJE parents and guardians for attending parent-teacher conferences and partnering with school staff.
The MSJE PTC for providing SO MANY enriching opportunities for students; Chess, movie nights, assemblies, FAME lessons, Math clubs, Robotics, and so much more are all possible because of their generosity.
MSJE Students who are exceptionally AMAZING!
Wishing you and your families a warm and relaxing holiday season.
In Partnership,

'Tis the Season for Lil' Shopper's Shoppe
The holiday season is a time of joy, gratitude, and generosity. To bring the holiday spirit to our school and share the joy of giving with our children, we are hosting a Lil’ Shoppers Shoppe from Dec 12th through the 14th.
This holiday store is a mini-market where your kids will have the opportunity to pick out their own inexpensive, high quality gifts for their family and friends, all in a safe and familiar environment. The Lil’ Shoppers Shoppe is set up in school and run by parent volunteers, who will help kids pick out and pay for their items.
We are so excited to bring the magic of the holiday season to MSJE and experience the joy with all of our kids as they find that perfect gift for their loved ones. If you want to help make this event extra special for our kids, we are still in need of more volunteers (sign up here: MSJE Volunteers: Holiday Shop Volunteers). You can choose the date and time slot(s) that works best for you. For those of you that sign up, you can expect an email from Jennifer Goto, our Holiday Shoppe coordinator, with more event details and volunteering logistics.
Visit https://msjeschool.myschool.holidayshop.org/ to preview the items that will be available and to purchase gift certificates (parents may prefer to pay with credit card in lieu of student bring cash to school.)
Be on the lookout for the flyer and shopping envelope that will go home in the December 1st Friday Folder.

Stay in your car when in the pick-up/drop-off zone on the school side of Bryant Street.
Be slow and cautious when pulling forward.
All students should exit the car on the right side.
Students should keep their backpacks and other items in the car, not in the trunk
No U-turns on Bryant Street
Cross only at designated crosswalks. Please, no jaywalking.
Recommended drop-off time is 8:05-8:15 AM (students are at risk of being tardy if they arrive later than 8:15)
At 8:18 when the warning bell rings, students must WALK to class.

2024 Game Schedule
GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. FUSD believes that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students. In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year.
During the 2023/2024 school year we will continue to identify 5th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 15, 2023. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification.

PTC Connections
We are all looking forward to a year of partnership, involvement, and enrichment! The support provided by parents and families will continue to play an important role in our students' lives.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
The PTC mission is to facilitate excellent communication among parents and teachers together, and to build one another up for the benefit of these amazing children! The goal of the 2023-2024 PTC Contribution Drive is to raise and administer funds that provide enrichment opportunities to MSJE students beyond those provided by the FUSD. The PTC will react to the changing needs of our students and teachers, and focus on creative ways to complement the ever-changing learning environment, and we need your support to do so!
Over the years, the PTC has funded after-school programs, classroom, and school needs to promote a more advanced and holistic education for our students. Examples include STEM programs such as Math Counts, Math Olympiad, and Robotics; Arts programs such as FAME, Music Programs, Creative Assemblies, Teacher Allotments, School Technology, School Library, Chess, and more. All funded by parents like you.
Your one-time donation for the current academic year is very important as the children’s needs are new. To donate, simply point your smartphone camera at one of the QR codes below and tap the link that pops up.
Suggested donation: $225 per student
Thank you in advance for your help!
For more information, please visit the PTC page on the MSJE Website or email the PTC at msjeptcexecboard@gmail.com.
