6th Grade Promotion Activities

Our 6th-grade parent volunteers are working hard to plan a fun and memorable event for our wonderful 6th graders as they move to middle school next year. The 6th Grade promotion social event is planned for Monday, June 6th (following the promotion ceremony) and we will have fun games for them to play on Friday, June 3rd.

For our parent volunteers to plan a great event for the kids, they need the t-shirt size of your kid to give them a gift as a memory and a donation of $25 per kid to plan the event (dance party, photo booth, games, food & drinks).

Here is the link to the 6th grade Promotion Form. Please fill out this form and make the payment by May 10th. Thank you!

Paid Crossing Guard Opportunity

The City of Fremont is looking to hire crossing guards. MSJE will benefit from this increased safety measure. As a crossing guard, you would:

  • Work school days only

  • Cross kids 1 hour before and 1 hour after school

  • Earn $48.00 for the 2 hours

Please see this Crossing Guard Flier for more information.

SBAC/CAST State-Required Assessments

Throughout the month of May, all 3rd-6th grade students will be taking the following state-required assessments:

  • SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) - State mandated test for grades 3-8 and 11

    • English Language Arts

    • Mathematics

  • CAST (California Science Test) - State mandated test for grades 5, 8, and 12

  • CAA (California Alternate Assessment) - For eligible students only

    • English Language Arts

    • Mathematics

    • Science

Prior to the May test administration, students will have the opportunity in and outside of school to practice for this assessment through the CAASPP Online Practice and Training Test Portal. (At home, students can take practice tests as a "guest user" without needing a session ID or SSID number.)

All 3rd - 6th grade students should have a personal pair of earbuds or headphones to use for testing, beginning on May 2. Please let your child's teacher know if they are unable to bring their own pair to school.

Additional information about State-Required tests can be found on the FUSD Website.

2022-2023 Class Placement Information and Input

At this time of the year, we begin to plan for the next school year...

The placement of students in classes is a complex process with many variables. Many Elementary schools in the Fremont Unified School District use the following criteria: program/student needs, student ability, student behavior, as well as ethnic and gender balance. Parent/guardian input in this process is valued as well. Parents/guardians may choose to complete the MSJE Parent/Guardian Input for Student Placement 2022-2023 Consideration form to describe their child's specific educational needs. This form is optional and parents/guardians should not feel they must complete this form. Input for Student Placement Consideration must be submitted no later than FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2022, BY 4:00 PM. NO FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME.

Intent to Return to MSJE

As we start to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year, we would like to remind everyone that if you are moving and/or your student(s) will not be continuing at MSJE next year you need to let the office know. (Please email the secretary, Shanthi @ ssukumar@fusdk12.net.) For returning students: Look out for MAZE day information that will be sent to families this July.

Counselor's Corner

Greetings MSJE Families,

May is here. As we wind down to the end of the school year, there are important celebrations ahead. The first week of May is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. We will be showing gratitude towards the staff and teachers for all of their hard efforts. Students will be encouraged to show their appreciation by participating in lunch recess activities throughout the week.

Career Week will be from May 9-13th. During this time, students will have the opportunity in their computer class to learn about some career options. Parents, friends and community members of FUSD staff have shared videos to learn more about potential careers. Students who are exposed to careers early on are more likely to see college and/or the profession they want as an achievable goal.

This month’s character trait is INTEGRITY. At school, it is important for students to be honest, demonstrate fairness and follow through on their commitments. Throughout this month, there will be many opportunities for students to show good character. At home, we encourage families to reinforce the importance of doing the right thing even when no one is looking. Here is a list of books available at our school library that you could read with your child.

Best Regards,

Ko Vue
