Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,
I hope this newsletter finds all MSJE families happy and healthy. It seems hard to believe that we are now in the month of May. This is the last Newsletter of the school year, however, I will continue to email families with important information from now until the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.
Next year, MSJE will be a smaller as we are converting to a Kindergarten through 5th grade school. Despite our down-sizing, our school hopes to expand on volunteer opportunities and family involvement. We urge all families to be involved with their child's school experience; Students whose parents are involved in their school experience are more likely to have better attendance, get better grades, and demonstrate better social skills and behavior. Parental involvement is noticed by children and helpful in setting students up to develop a lifelong love for learning.
Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous month of May.
In Partnership,
Katy Carter, Principal
Thank you, families, for participating in this year's Booster fundraiser. We are so pleased to report that we have exceeded our fundraising goal and have received over $17,000 in pledges. These generous donations will go towards PTC sponsored MSJE programs for the 2023-2024 school year. Congratulations to Mrs. Lafferty's 1st grade class who had the most pledges; their reward was to silly string Mrs. Carter... So much fun!!!

MAZE is Fremont Unified School District’s annual registration confirmation process in which parents/guardians:
provide required information for each enrolled student - such as emergency contacts,
acknowledge certain parent/guardian and student rights and responsibilities, and
access specific school forms/information.
Completing the MAZE process ensures your student’s school has accurate information, and allows families to view student schedules/classroom assignments and their teachers when that information is released in August.
MAZE forms for all FUSD students must be completed online through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal. The window to complete the MAZE process for the 2023-24 school year is July 17 to August 7, 2023.
While MAZE forms will not be available until July 17, we strongly recommend that you take a few moments and log into your IC Parent Portal now to address any access issues. Click here for IC Parent Portal troubleshooting and support.
Please do not complete the New Student Registration as it will duplicate your student(s).
Parents/Guardians will receive a notice MAZE information at the email address indicated in the IC Parent Portal, and updates will be posted to both the FUSD and school websites.
It's that time of the year to nominate (or self-nominate) parent/community committee members for our 2023-2024 School Site Council.
The Commitment: Elected members would serve a 2-year term and attend SSC meetings 5 times per year (2nd Wednesdays of September, October, December, March, and May, 3:00 to 4:00 PM). Parent/community members would work with school staff to edit and approve the Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP) and the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) for the continued growth of student success in order to close the achievement gap and enhance and enrich the school experience for all students.
Process/Deadline: There are currently 4 open seats which need to be filled by. Those who are interested or those who would like to nominate someone else shall submit this NOMINATION FORM on or before May 26, 2023. Ballots will then be distributed to the MSJE parent community.
Questions: Please address any questions to the principal, Katy Carter (kcarter@fusdk12.net).
We are thrilled to welcome families to attend our in-person Open House on Tuesday, May 23 at 6:00 PM. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see a glimpse of what your child has accomplished at school this year. Students and families are welcome.
It's that time of year to celebrate our amazing MSJE Teachers & Staff (May 8-12). The most meaningful way we can let our staff know how much they are appreciated is to involve our students. Please see the Teacher Appreciation Week Activity Calendar and encourage your child to participate. We are also seeking the support from families to provide food/drinks for our Appreciation Breakfast (5/9) and Lunch (5/12). If you are able to help, please sign up HERE.
We are thrilled to be holding a promotion ceremony this year to honor and celebrate our AMAZING 5th and 6th graders.

At this time of the year, we begin to plan for the next school year...
The placement of students in classes is a complex process with many variables. Many Elementary schools in the Fremont Unified School District use the following criteria: program/student needs, student ability, student behavior, as well as ethnic and gender balance. Parent/guardian input in this process is valued as well. Parents/guardians may choose to complete the MSJE Parent/Guardian Input for Student Placement 2023-2024 Consideration form to describe their child's specific educational needs. This form is optional and parents/guardians should not feel they must complete this form. Input for Student Placement Consideration must be submitted no later than FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2023, BY 4:00 PM. NO FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME.
We are looking to hire additional noon supervisors at Mission San Jose Elementary School. The position would be daily from 11:00- 12:45. If you are interested in this paid position, please contact Katy Carter (kcarter@fusdk12.net).
Volunteers needed: We are looking for parents of Multilingual Learners to serve on the District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) and the MSJE English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). DELAC provides a forum for parents/guardians of Multilingual Learners to advise, assist and provide recommendations to District administration and the Board of Education for the continuing improvement of programs, services, and policies for English Learners and their families.
DELAC MEETINGS 2022-2023: Meeting dates (See DELAC Info)
MSJE ELAC: The ELAC meetings will be held in-person at the MSJE Library (2nd Wednesdays of September, October, February, March, and May, 3:00 to 4:00 PM). At ELAC meetings, you would share DELAC information with our School Site Council which is made up of staff and other parents.
Please contact Katy Carter kcarter@fusdk12.net if you are interested.

Greetings MSJE Families,
May is here. As we wind down to the end of the school year, there are important celebrations ahead. The second week of May is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. We will be showing gratitude towards the teachers and staff for all of their hard efforts. Students will be encouraged to show their appreciation by participating in lunch recess activities throughout the week.
Middle School Transition
There will be a Transition to Middle School Parent Workshop hosted by elementary school counselors on May 18th from 5:00pm. This workshop is geared towards parents with students attending middle school for the first time. It will cover the basics of schedule differences, routine changes and types of courses.

We are all looking forward to a year of partnership, involvement, and enrichment! The support provided by parents and families will continue to play an important role in our students' lives.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
The PTC mission is to facilitate excellent communication among parents and teachers together, and to build one another up for the benefit of these amazing children! The goal of the PTC Contribution Drive is to raise and administer funds that provide enrichment opportunities to MSJE students beyond those provided by the FUSD. The PTC will react to the changing needs of our students and teachers, and focus on creative ways to complement the ever changing learning environment. And we need your support to do so!
Over the years, the PTC has funded after school programs, classroom, and school needs to promote a more advanced and holistic education for our students. Examples include STEM programs such as Math Counts, Math Olympiad and Schmahl Science; Arts programs such as FAME, Music Programs, Creative Assemblies, Teacher Allotments, School Technology, School Library, Chess and more. All funded by parents like you.
Your one-time donation for the current academic year is very important as the children’s needs are new. To donate, simply point your smartphone camera at one of the QR codes below and tap the link that pops up.
Suggested donation: $225 per student
Thank you in advance for your help!
