Pupils will be given the opportunity to develop their physical fitness, physical skills, cognitive skills, physical competencies and personal qualities.
Pupils who wish to progress to National PE in S4 can select S3 National. This course will act as a stepping stone to the National course where the course content will be introduced and allow pupils to get to grips with National terminology. Pupils will also have an opportunity to develop their practical performance.
This course is ideal for pupils who learn well in a practical context. Through analysing performance, learners will understand what is required to improve performance and to become more effective performers.
Course Assessment: 50% practical performance (assessment of two activities chosen by a pupil) & 50% written portfolio (completed throughout the year electronically)
The Higher course is split into two sections. Performance: Pupils will develop their performance in class but also have the choice to select two activities to be assessed on, which are worth 50% of the total overall mark combined.
Factors Impacting Performance: Candidates develop knowledge and understanding of Mental, Emotional, Social and Physical factors that impact on personal performance in physical activities. Through collecting information, candidates consider how these factors can influence effectiveness in performance. An SQA exam will make up the remaining 50%.
