Courses follow Level 1-3 and is underpinned by numeracy and include topics such as: Shape, Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, Area and Volume, Algebra.
Courses build on previous knowledge and start to include national assessment levels. Other topics include: Pythagoras, Trigonometry and Statistics.
Pupils who have perhaps followed up to Level 2 through S1-3 may be most suited to application courses. Areas include: Pythagoras, Statistics, Application of Area/Volume, Finance.
National 5 extends and deepens mathematical understanding and is suitable for a student who has reached Level 4 in S3. Areas of study: Quadratics, Volume of Complex Solids, Non Right Angled Trig, Statistics, Vectors, Algebra, Trig Equations.
National 4 extends mathematical understanding and is suitable for a student who has reached Level 3 in S3. Areas of study: Pythagoras, Trigonometry, Statistics, Algebra, Area/Volume, Straight Line.
A student looking to go on and study an area that involves Maths and would be best suited to the Higher course. Areas of study: Calculus, Graphs, Functions, Vectors, Trigonometry, Recurrence Relations, Circles, Straight Line.
This course makes real life links for mathematics. Areas include: Application of Pythagoras, Analysing Statistics, Application of Area/Volume, Analysing a Financial Position, Logistical Problem Solving.
Students who have achieved an A1 at Higher should come straight to Advanced Higher! Fantastic course for those wanting to study Maths at a further level. Areas of study: Further Calculus, Proof Binomial Theorem, Complex Numbers, Matrices, Vectors.
