In S1 Modern Languages, all pupils will have two periods of French and one period of Spanish.
In French lessons, pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: themselves; their school; their family; and their sporting interests.
In Spanish lessons, pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: giving introductions and greetings; and their family.
In S2 Modern Languages, all pupils will have two periods of Spanish and one period of French.
In Spanish lessons, pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: their house and home; cultural aspects of Spain, such as bullfighting; their school; and their free time interests.
In French lessons, pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: their Film and TV interests; their food and drink preferences; and their daily routine.
In S3 French, all pupils will attend three periods per week.
Pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: their family and friends; sports; hobbies; and their holiday activities.
Throughout S3 Spanish, pupils will come to class three periods a week.
Pupils will learn to understand, talk and write about: their school life; their home life; their sporting interests; and hobbies.
S3 Italian is a new course at S3, designed to bring pupils from beginners' level to Level 4 in a year.

The Advanced Higher Modern Languages course is offered in all four of the languages we offer at Musselburgh Grammar School: French, Spanish, Italian and German. It includes a literary study in the modern language,;continued development of reading, writing, listening and talking skills; translation; and the continued study of a wide range of topics from the four main contexts of Society, Employability, Learning and Culture.
