Lateness Policy
RATIONALE
Arriving to all classes on time is essential because:
It is necessary for pupil safety.
It ensures that pupils do not miss out on learning.
It prepares pupils for future employment.
CORE EXPECTATIONS
Positive encouragement should be given to pupils to follow the lateness policy. This may include:
All pupils to arrive at registration by 08.30am.
Registration teachers to take register at 08.30am.
All pupils arriving to school after 08.40am sign in at the front entrance (between 08.40am and 9am) or at the school office (after 9am).
All pupils arrive to class on time.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
REGISTRATION TEACHER
Ensures an accurate register is taken at 08.30am.
Records any pupil arriving after 08.30am (but before 08.40am) as late on register.
Informs pupil they have been marked as late.
C. HARVEY
Signs pupils in at the main entrance of the school between 08.40am and 9am every morning.
Completes lateness slip (YELLOW) for pupils to give to class teacher.
ADMIN SUPPORT
Signs pupils, who arrive after 9am, in to school and provides lateness slip (YELLOW).
Monitors lateness throughout the day and sends a text home to inform parents/carers that a lateness has occurred (for registration and periods 1, 4 and 6).
CLASS TEACHER
Ensures an accurate register is taken in the first 10 minutes of the lesson.
Updates and records any pupil arriving to class noticeably late on SEEMiS register.
Updates Seemis to LATE when a yellow slip is handed to them due to late arrival to school
Records any pupil arriving to class noticeably late on department Shared Drive Google Sheet for lateness by the end of the week.
Informs Principal Teacher of persistent late-coming.
Note –
If a late slip is given during period 1 for lateness to school (YELLOW), this must be recorded as LATE on SEEMiS register immediately.
If a pupil arrives to class late with a lateness slip (GREEN) (signed and dated with time), change TBC to present immediately. This should not be recorded as late on SEEMiS/Google Sheet.
If a pupil arrives to class late without an out of class slip, change TBC to LATE immediately. This should be added to the Google Sheet.
CURRICULUM LEADER
Monitors lateness across department.
Contacts home to communicate latecoming using the standard email template by the end of the week.
PRINCIPAL TEACHER OF GUIDANCE
Records any pupil arriving to PSE lessons as noticeably late on department Google Sheet by the end of the week.
Contacts home using standard email template by the end of the week for lateness to PSE lessons.
Monitors lateness across caseload and puts in interventions where appropriate.
