Head Teacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Musselburgh Grammar School, a proud and vibrant school at the heart of the thriving Musselburgh town, and equally serving the nearby village of Whitecraig. We are the fourth oldest school in Scotland and will celebrate our 400th anniversary in 2026.

Our school motto of ‘Striving for Excellence, Caring for All’ and school values of Respect, Honesty and Determination are at the heart of everything we do. We encourage everyone in our school community to learn and improve, and to be the best we can be every day.

We are determined to make sure that every young person at Musselburgh Grammar School has the best possible experience so we are always looking for new ideas to improve. All staff at the Grammar, whether teachers or support staff, are committed to helping our young people thrive here.

At the Grammar, we believe in the power of learning, and inspiring a love of learning. Learning is not just for pupils, but also for staff, to challenge our thinking and constantly improve what we do, and for us to support families to help your children thrive: Musselburgh Learns is our approach to supporting our learning community.

The Grammar staff are committed to providing an educational experience that raises your child’s aspirations, inspires them to learn, and challenges them to be their best selves: quite simply, we want your child to have the experience we would all want for our own children.

We want to work in partnership with you to support your child’s learning and enjoyment, and you are always welcome to contact the school to talk over any issues with me or your child’s Head of House.

I hope that you find our website interesting and useful, and look forward to welcoming you to the Grammar soon.
