We have amazing artistic talent in our class! Recently two students have been recognized outside of DeWitt Carter for their art works.
Zoe won the Port Colborne Christmas Card Contest and her art work will be featured on Christmas greetings sent out by our mayor. Zoe submitted her winning art work before taking a photo of it so we can't showcase it here, but you will see it in your mailboxes soon.
Macy won the Peace Poster contest and her work will move on to the next level of competition. She received a $25 award from Ms. Sachs who represented the Port Colborne Lions Club.
Today's performance of the tableaux for "The Call" was exceptional. It was an example of what can happen when we take a single idea, collaborate to make it come to life and all give a hundred percent. Please make time to watch the video of the rehearsal before the performance here. Students should be very proud of their contribution to today's assembly.
On Thursday, we put up the rows of white crosses on DeWitt Carter's front lawn. I know this is something neighbours look forward to seeing each November 11.
Students developed criteria for biographies and are in the process of writing a biography for either General Montcalm or General Wolfe. The purpose of this is to help them understand the people who were the key players of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
Students are reading and discussing the causes and effects of the Seven Years War in the mid 1750's. They begin with reading and summarizing information in their own words to make sense of what they're learning. Then we discuss the complex issues as a class. One of the things we will be discussing is the message intended by Benjamin Franklin when he published this political cartoon in 1754.
Please take time to discuss these important ideas at home so that what students are learning "sticks".
