We are learning how to express repeated multiplication as a power. Once we understood how to express a power by multiplying a "base" by itself the number of times determined by the "exponent", we had fun working together to solve this challenge (see images to the right).
Another problem we investigated was what 3 to the exponent zero is. We had a variety of hypotheses, and worked as a class to develop a mathematical proof to discover the answer. Please have a conversation with your child about what they discovered!
Over the last few weeks, we have learned about the Particle Theory. Our next step is to understand how particles interact in solutions and mixtures.
Today we designed our own experiments to answer the question whether the mass of gum changes after chewing.
The results of the experiment were surprising to many students! If you want to know what we discovered, you'll have to ask us!
