We started this week with taking some time to appreciate the positive attitude we all had last week. We faced challenges of tests, schedule changes and new learning last week and through it all, we kept a growth mindset.
That's definitely worth celebrating with a cupcake!
Today we participated in the pitch presentation contest at EL Crossley. This is a joint venture between Brock University, a local business (De La Terre Bakery) and EL Crossley. Grade 12 students analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of a local business and prepared presentations with their recommendations on strategies to address challenges the business has with expanding and moving locations. David DiPietro and Dan Lonergan from the experiential learning program at Brock University judged the competition.
We took time to analyze the challenges of the business before attending the competition today and used the criteria to evaluate each presentation. We will use what we learned today to develop our own pitch presentations for our business.
We were also able to drop by the greenhouse at Crossley to take a look at their hydroponics system and the way they're growing tomato plants. Our aquaponics system will look very different, but it was interesting to see their system design.
Today Mr. Jack Shore joined us for Phys Ed class to share his skills as a Phys Ed instructor. He shared lots of activities where we practised keeping control of a ball while moving in different ways. Mr. Shore will be back with us again next Wednesday.
Today grade 7 students showed what they have learned about landforms, contour maps, plate tectonics and earthquakes.
When we discuss solutions to the questions next week, we will also review the most effective study techniques and test-taking strategies.
Please take time to talk about this test at home.
Thanks to Cole for this blog post!
Today we worked on our business plan. We are almost finished and are really excited to get working on the real thing and building the aquaponics system. Buying all the supplies for it will be really exciting.
Ms. Minor's Note ... We will be deciding on our business name next week. Stay tuned!
