Students are creating amazing brochures using Canva! They are following design criteria including using a consistent colour theme and fonts and using lots of photos to create professional-looking work.
The purpose of the brochure is to welcome new students to our 7/8 class and to give them information about what is unique about our learning environment. We brainstormed a list of about 15 things that a new student should know about joining our class (e.g., Cornell notes, Reflection Journal, this website, etc.)
Here is one side of Jersey's brochure.
We are exploring the difference between theoretical and experimental probability. We played a game of chance called "GREED" where we rolled doubles 10 times out of 58 trials or approximately 17.24% of the time. When we calculated the theoretical probability of rolling doubles, the probability was 16.66% of the time. Although the probabilities are close, they are not the same because there is always the element of chance.
We are learning how to use probability trees to help us represent theoretical probability.
Some of the most important "life skills" we need involves understanding how to make money work for us. Financial literacy is a new strand in our math curriculum and there are expectations to understand credit, interest and budgeting.
Students are working on an assignment to help them understand the financial obligations of living independently, the cost of post-secondary education, the risks and benefits of credit cards etc. The last part of the assignment involves setting up a realistic savings plan.
Students are in the final stages of filming and editing their original movie based on a screenplay they wrote for their original short story. We are looking forward to a film festival showing all movies next week.
