"According to a new study, our desire for comfort could be holding us back when it comes to personal growth. If we want to improve ourselves and achieve our goals, we may want to start actively seeking out discomfort."
This is an excerpt from the introduction to a terrific article that was shared with me by our youth counsellor, Julie Mathewson.
As an introvert, one of the things that makes me the most uncomfortable is attending big social gatherings. I admit I have avoided them many times in the past. What I have come to learn is that things that make me uncomfortable are precisely the things I need to do!
Please take time to read this great article (click here). It is only a short read, but it summarizes the results of powerful research studies and has some great recommendations. I have asked students to read it and hope parents will read it as well and take time to share your thoughts afterwards.
Run, don't walk, to get your tickets for Laura Secord's production of Mama Mia! Everything about this show is worthy of a standing ovation.
Today, grade 7 and 8 students had a wonderful time at Laura Secord and thoroughly enjoyed the show. They are using their recently developed expertise in writing reviews to write a theatrical review of the performance.
Intermediate students represented DeWitt Carter very well and all teachers were very proud of them.
The show runs May 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 &14. Don't wait to get your tickets!
The staff and students at Port High organized an amazing day for our grade 8 students. From making their own pizzas to drumming, flying drones, throwing fire and being part of an automotive pit crew, they had something for everyone.
It was a great opportunity for grade 8 students to see everything that Port High has to offer and to meet grade 8 students from other schools.
It has been about 3 weeks since students started their plant experiments.
This picture of Soren's plants is quite amazing! You can see that the tomato plants that have been exposed to red light are almost twice the size of the plants exposed to regular sunlight.
We have observed that the plants in the Nutri Tower hydroponics systems are anywhere from two to 5 times the size of plants in regular soil!
We will continue our experiments for another two weeks and then present our reports to Mr. Brad Digweed (the DSBN Student Achievement Leader) to review our observations, conclusions and questions. We will also be presenting to the grade 3 class who will be verifying our results by following our procedures and performing the exact same experiments.
