It seems that we often take things and people for granted. In our quest to be more mindful about the things for which we are grateful, we are using one of the white boards in class as a "Gratitude Board". Everyone (students, teachers, parents) is encouraged to share sincere appreciation by writing his/her message on the board.
As a class, we researched quotes about gratitude and decided these are the 4 that we want to see on the board every day:
"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it." William Arthur Ward
"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Robert Brault
"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." Oprah Winfrey
"Keep your eyes open and try to catch people in your company doing something right, then praise them for it." Tom Hopkins
If you would like to appreciate someone in our class, I hope you will email me your appreciation and I will make sure to add it to the board.
Thank you!
We are really excited to be collaborating on developing print advertisements for Gator Gardens with Mr. Medhurst's grade 6 class.
Today, as a class, we determined criteria for our advertisement (see opposite), Then the presentation team who will be doing the pitch to potential investors on February 28 presented our business idea to the grade 6's. They asked fantastic questions that we will use to improve our pitch presentation before Feb 28.
Next week, the grade 6's will be sharing their ad concepts with us (as well as a slogan for Gator Gardens) and we will decide which ad we will use to advertise in the local newspaper.
Today we learned how to create scale drawings using proportions. Our first task is to draw a 1:10 scale drawing of our desks. Our next task is to draw a scale drawing of the aquaponics frame we will share with the construction SHSM students at EL Crossley so they are able to build the frame according to our exact requirements.
We are continuing to work on developing a strong voice in our writing and meeting expectations for conventions (especially sentence structure, spelling, punctuation and capitalization).
Today's writing assignment was based on famous images related to Black History Month like this one of Harriet Tubman (see opposite)
