Here is our finished version of Macy's original design. Everyone contributed something to the finished project.
Today we did an experiment to see how many drops of water will fit on a penny without spilling over.
Most students predicted between 3 - 20 drops would fit on the penny. Everyone was really surprised to discover you could fit about 50 drops or more! You can see in these pics that water domed up on the penny before spilling off.
Now we are investigating the chemical make-up of water to understand why water does this.
Student Council has organized a week of Halloween themed activities.
Right now we are working on our original door design. Thanks to Macy Melinko who created the design (see photo) and who has taken on the role of project manager.
Essay-writing is an incredibly important writing skill.
We are learning the format of a 5-paragraph essay and have developed a step-by-step strategy to help us build the skills we need.
Our first essay is a persuasive essay on whether the voting age in Canada should be lowered to 12 years old.
For all the notes and an exemplar of a 5-paragraph essay, please go to our Google classroom in the literacy folder.
We are continuing our investigation into the connection between fractions, decimals and percent.
We learned that percent means "out of 100". So 45% actually menas "45 out of 100".
We had a discussion about whether a percent is a whole number. We realized that it is NOT a whole number because it represents a fraction out of a hundred. (Unless of course the percent is 100% which would be 100/100 or 1 whole).
Using manipulatives like the fractions cubes are helping us solve problems like the "What am I?" riddle you see here.
