We are using our understanding of fractions to solve word problems. We realized that a key strategy is to determine what operation is required by carefully reading the words in the problem. When the problem involves a "part of" something, we know the operation required is multiplication. When the problem involves a "difference" (e.g., more or less), the operation required is subtraction. A "total" means addition. And whenever the problem involves "equal sharing", the operation is division.
How do you master solving these problems? PRACTICE!!
We are continuing to work on our dowel trees. Here is Logan's finished tree.
We know that when we are learning new things, we should expect to be challenged and struggle at times. The important thing is that we persevere and progress in our learning. Here are some of the key areas of learning that we want to see progress (see image).
With less than 3 months left in this school year, we are taking time to reflect on our academic and social emotional progress since September. We'll set new goals and commit to strategies to achieve those goals. We'll sit down to have one-on-one interviews after the April break.
