We had an incredible day for our field trip to take photographs of the alphabet using architectural features.
Here are a couple of letters we captured.
Once we crop and edit, we will have all 26 letters of the alphabet.
Stay tuned for the art projects we create.
For the next few weeks, we will be using content we have learned in History and Geography to practise our debating skills.
In class, we are learning the structure, skills and strategies required to be a confident debater and will be spending considerable time researching, preparing and presenting debates.
Here are the 4 debate topics we will be working on.
We continue to work on building a kind and respectful class. Although many of us say that's what we want, our actions frequently don't align with what we say.
I am hoping that this ancient advice will help us be more mindful about what we say.
First, is what you are going to say true? So many times we get ourselves in trouble by gossiping or repeating things that are not true! If you don't know something to be true, it's better left unsaid.
Second, consider whether what you are about to say is necessary. Many times we jump into conversations that have nothing to do with us just so our voices are heard. This doesn't lead to meaningful exchanges.
Finally, take time to think about saying what needs to be said in a kind way. Disagreeing with someone is no reason to name-call or demean.
Please take time to share your thoughts as a family about how our relationships would be affected if we all choose to think about these 3 qualifiers before we speak.
We have been in a deadlock with respect to choosing a location for the outdoor classroom.
So today, we invited the grade 3 class to give us feedback. They are the first class to get an introduction to our schoolyard revitalization project and they were very enthusiastic.
Their insightful questions and ideas helped break the deadlock and we now have a proposed location for the outdoor classroom, greenhouse and garden! Our next step is to determine the materials and design features of each component so we can create proposals for funding.
Our collaboration with the grade 2's is going really well. Today we started painting on canvas!
In the Fluids unit, we have been using our understanding of the characteristics of fluids, Particle Theory, density, flow rate and viscosity to explain real-life problems.
For example, here you see a chart explaining why toothpaste is sold in squeezable tubes.
As learners, it is really helpful for us to acknowledge when we feel "fragile" with concepts.
Today, as a class, we discussed reasons why we feel a bit "fragile" when it comes to working with fractions. It was really interesting to learn that we are all in the same boat when it comes to what confuses us about fractions.
Now we can move forward with learning about fractions to make sure we clear up what we find confusing.
