We started the week by discussing an opportunity to have a class business venture. The rationale is to build leadership, communication, critical thinking and collaboration skills while learning entrepreneurial skills (market research, business plan writing, pitch presentations, website design, app design, logo design, Excel spreadsheets etc).
We reflected on what the opportunities of having a class business would be, as well as our concerns. Based on our class discussion, we are enthusiastic about moving forward to plan our class business idea.
We will be using Microbits and Arduino microprocessors this year to learn how to write code.
As a first step, we discussed how important it is to write excellent instructions (and how frustrating it is when we have to follow confusing instructions). Our first coding activity was "unplugged". This involved using only symbols (no words) to write instructions to reproduce an exact shape in a specific location on a grid.
Some of the most significant learning was that feedback really helped improve our code.
