Position: Servant Leader Interns (Summer Internship)
Position Description: Servant Leader Interns (SLIs) turn learning into lightbulb moments—and conversation into inspiration. These college students serve as classroom leaders and are instrumental in teaching, supporting and leading scholars throughout the six-week Freedom School experience.
From delivering a literacy-rich curriculum to facilitating a wide variety of afternoon enrichment activities, SLIs build strong relationships with our scholars and help ensure our scholars are excited to attend Freedom School every day. In short, they’re critical to the experience of each scholar.
Primary Duties:
Attend CDF Freedom Schools® National Training, and in-town training with Freedom School Partners.
Set-up, maintain and breakdown classroom space, adhering to Freedom School’s guidelines and
instructions.Serve as energetic Harambee (morning pep rally) leaders each morning of program operation.
Deliver the Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC) to a class of ten or more scholars for the 6 weeks of the
program, per the standards developed by CDF Freedom Schools®.Serve as leaders of afternoon activities and other special events; chaperone field trips.
Participate in Family Engagement Nights throughout the duration of the program.
Maintain health and safety standards, and report any concerns to the Site Coordinator.
Maintain accurate attendance records.
Collaborate with site staff to establish and maintain a positive, supportive, and structured environment for
the scholars.Serve as a positive role model for the Freedom School Partners scholars.
Skills Required:
Interest in working with and supervising children in a classroom setting
Strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to motivate others
Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Mature and professional demeanor
Ability to manage difficult or emotional situations
Ability to work in the summer heat, lift at least 50 pounds and actively participate in all field trips and
activities (field days, swimming, science experiments, etc.Interest in working as part of an intergenerational team, with the ability to help build positive team spirit
Enthusiasm for the CDF Freedom Schools® program and commitment to children’s advocacy and
servant leadershipStrong appreciation for individual cultural history and the willingness to be open to, and respectful of all
culturesAt least 18 years old, enrolled in college and completed at least 1 year of undergraduate studies
Ability to reside in the Charlotte area for duration of training and summer program (room and
board/housing assistance is unavailable)Valid ID and reliable transportation
Satisfactory drug test and satisfactory background check for criminal and child protective findings

Position: FSP Latrobe Warehouse Helper
Position Description: Help us prepare for summer 2024! Our warehouse team has a list of tasks to complete that may include grouping items for distribution, counting items for inventory, or sorting books and supplies to be stored!
Things to Note:
All volunteers must be 16 years or older. Any underage volunteers are welcome, with an accompanying adult.
All volunteers must be registered per person. Example: If Sarah and Sally would like to volunteer, each person must register separately.
Read our Safety and Health Guidelines for FSP Latrobe prior to volunteering.
Wear appropriate clothing for working in a warehouse space. Our warehouse has concrete floors, so we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Please note that the warehouse space is cold in the fall/winter and warm in the spring/summer. If you have the ability, you may be asked to lift (or help lift) totes or boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
Arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign in and prepare for your shift.

FSP Latrobe For your safety and the safety of others, Freedom School Partners requests all staff, volunteers, or visitors to FSP Latrobe follow the safety guidelines below:
· When volunteering at the FSP Latrobe Warehouse volunteers are NOT permitted to use, the ladders to obtain any items needed.
· Please use caution when lifting items. If you need assistance lifting anything please ask one of our team members and we would be happy to assist or find an alternative solution.
· Wear closed-toed shoes. Please do not wear sandals, flip-flops, or other open-toed shoes in the warehouse space.
· Avoid touching your face.
· Please keep personal items in your vehicle when possible. Be sure to clearly mark your personal belongings, including water bottles, with a marker or sticker upon arrival
