Read Online and Download Everyday Horrors: Bill of the Dead, Book 2 by Rick Gualtieri,Christopher John Fetherolf,Richard Gualtieri. One geek against the rising darkness. Bill Ryder is having a hell of a week. Magic is back, one of his friends has been entombed in solid rock, and he once again has no pulse to speak of. Too bad it’s about to get worse. Something is hunting vampires in New York City. A smarmy wizard has been called in to investigate, one with skeletons in his closet and eyes for Bill’s girlfriend. All the while, neolithic horrors - not seen since the dawn of time - are reappearing, wreaking havoc wherever they step. Bill will need to rally his friends, both new and old, if he’s to have any chance of turning the creeping tide of chaos threatening to drown his city. But it won’t be easy. The balance of power in the supernatural hierarchy has been upended, and all the attitude in the world might not be enough to fix it. Bill the vampire is back in Everyday Horrors, the second book in the Bill of the Dead series that puts the comedy back into horror comedy. If you enjoy the snark of Shayne Silvers, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, or Jim Butcher, then you're in for one hell of a bloody fun ride.
EVERYDAY HORRORS is the second novel of the Bill of the Dead series, sequel to the extraordinarily funny and entertaining TOME OF BILL series. Bill is a obnoxious geek who has been turned into a vampire. Twice. While he's slightly matured given his steady relationship with a witch, semi-adopted child, and owning his own building--he's recently brought back magic into the world. Having epically screwed up by doing so, he's trying to rebuild the vampire race's structure to keep them under control and turn them all into vegetarians (in the vampire sense). Unfortunately, his ex-girlfriend is now possessed by his dead best friend and he has a new romantic rival in a handsome wizard.I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more Bill Ryder books. He's always entertaining and while I'd like to see him hook up with different characters, I'm enjoying his current relationship. I'm a fan of the fact Sally has returned and while I hope she becomes a vampire again, I was entertained by the developments throughout this book. I also like new characters Char, the new vamps, and meeting some of Tom's family.Fans of the previous books will love this and those who haven't read them? Well, you'll probably be totally lost but that's why you should read the originals.8.5/10
I read the earlier Tome of Bill books and enjoyed them enough that I didn't think twice about buying the Bill of the Dead books... but maybe I'm just too old for them now. I mean, the characters are still there, the plots are still there--but the language is really beginning to bother me, and I'm struggling to finish Everyday Horrors. It's crude and vulgar, and I never thought I was particularly prudish--I've used quite a few of those words in my time--but it seems as if some characters are not capable of having a conversation without it. And that's kinda too bad. It turns interesting characters into people who never got past adolescence, and that just doesn't cut it for me. It goes from shock value to just plain not people I want to spend time with any more. There are better books out there.
Great to have most of the gang back. No spoilers, so I won't say who is still unaccounted for. Bill shows some signs of maturity in his relationships (let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, he still puts his foot in it regularly). Tom is navigating his new body with typical crass aplomb, and Christy is barely keeping them all in line. A great continuation of the stories. Plenty of open ended opportunities to continue from here.
With this book we get some answers at the beginning some many questions that feel like there is another story going on behind the background the main characters aren't aware of and more interactions with new characters that's give me spice to the story is Bill in his group try to figure out what the heck is going on with the world and all the new monsters that is showing up while trying to find out where they're missing friend add disappeared to.
I was disappointed, I've enjoyed most all the the Vampire Bill books, but this one was a bit of a let down, and a bit boring. The story was somewhat disjointed, and personally I'm getting a little tired of the constant swearing. I don't mind the need to swear when your slugging through sewers or being attacked by some creature, but, come on, do these people know how to talk without swearing every other word. That kids swear jar must have enough money in it to send her to Harvard
