There is a lot of "you will" and "this/that will." The author made a statement about a study they read that included four sections, but they only chose to write about the one that made their point, and they didn't even cite the source. The author's writing style is also way too simple. It reads like a very intelligent high schoolers psych101 paper - they know what they want to say, and they have information to back it up, but they don't yet have the skill to impart the information. I'm sure this would be a great resource for someone who isn't nitpicky, but I have a stick so far up my rear, I practically have a second tongue, so I need more than this book can give. All complaints aside, though, for the price, it's a good starter with good vocabulary for people wanting to start their CBT journey. I may even pick it back up at a later date, after I get a stick-ectomy.
Positive thinking needs to be supported with positive results or depression will deepen. Instead, engage in realistic evaluation of circumstances, make an action plan, execute it. If it fails, analyze why and develop another plan. This book is right about cutting yourself some slack and not being your own worst critic. There are better books.
This too all of ten mins to read. This could have had more information in it but it didn't have anything that is not common knowledge or what anyone knew
I like that this book touches on ways to change our way of thinking about ourselves & try to focus on the positive. I would have preferred to read about more specific tools to use. There are some but no real examples of exercises to use. I was looking more for positive affirmations or examples of what to say to ones self. This more of a generalization about what to do. It’s an ok book & probably why it was free. It’s not a bad place to Start your journey to a life of positive thinking. I will continue to search other books for more specific help.
This book has been on my device for quite some time but I really needed it today. Unlike most self help books that basically give you rules or affirmations or stories of success, this book offered researched activities that you can apply when you're about to repeat negative habits. It also puts common bad habits into categories which makes me feel normal? We act like bad habits are rare catastrophes? Great quick read that I'll pick up again and again to review these activities. I'll refer it as well. For sure.
