Juniors Brynn Berndt, Livi Overmyer, and Katie Schouten graduated from the inaugural Leadership Marshall County: Emerge program.
The Emerge Program empowers and develops diverse groups of rising high school juniors in Marshall County Indiana by providing integrated leadership programming coupled with unique enrichment experiences. Emerge asks student leaders to get out of their comfort zones and act on building leadership skills, while reflecting on their own leadership journey into adulthood.
Juniors from schools all over Marshall County (Argos, Bremen, Culver, John Glenn, Plymouth, and Triton) were selected to represent their schools and learn/develop their leadership abilities throughout this year long program. They heard prominent members within the county, and worked with Dr. John Yeager and our very own Mr. Mark Maes to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to help make an impact in their communities through serving as mentors and giving back through service-learning partnerships.
Some things that were touched on included:
• Develop their leadership capacity through lessons designed around the IDOE’s Employability Skills. (https://leadmc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/IDOE-Employability-skills.pdf)
• Identify how the skills are applied in Marshall County industries, business, health care, education, and non-profit organizations – visiting their venues and learning from the agencies’ respective leaders.
• Participate in team problem solving simulations.
• Develop mentoring skills to lead others in their schools.
• Collaborate on team service / philanthropic projects.
Brynn, Livi, and Katie were nominated by Culver’s Administrative and Guidance teams. They represented Culver well and we look forward to seeing all that they do with their newfound knowledge base!
