McCuen Named to Culver Community Schools Board of Trustees

CULVER- 12.6.2023

Matthew McCuen has been chosen to fulfill the empty board seat of the Culver Community School Board. McCuen replaces Mike Pazin who recently resigned his position with the board. The current Board of Trustees conducted interviews with interested community members and then reviewed each interview and candidate before making their decision. The interviews were held during a public meeting.

McCuen has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and currently works in the electrical sector with NIPSCO as a Compliance and SMS Manager Supporting the NIPSCO Electrical Segment. He has worked in this sector for 25 years on top of being an involved father and community member.

McCuen and his family have been  residents of Culver since 2018. He currently has 4 children attending Culver Community High School (Amiyah, Caleb, Jonas and Troy) and one daughter (Maisy) that graduated with the class of 2023 and currently attends Grand Valley State University.

Matt is the Culver Community Assistant Boys Varsity Baseball Coach and helps coordinate the weekly football team dinners along with his wife, Jessica. Jessica is the Athletic Boosters President, Coaches Girls JV Basketball and is an assistant coach with Boys Varsity Soccer. His children are involved in many different sports and clubs including BPA, FFA, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Art Club, Football, Soccer, Baseball, Track and Basketball.

McCuen said he has a "a vested interest in serving in this role. Outside of my experience and skills gained through my career in the utilities sector, I believe that my current involvement with school related activities, including volunteering to coach or fulfilling other needs for activities that my children are involved in, positions me well to have an immediate positive impact in this role with the relationships I have established".

He hopes to use this new position to assist the corporation in providing a "safe an enriching learning environment, with robust, engaging curricula that prepares students to be contributing members of society and lifelong learners. Whether that is through challenging honors programs preparing them for college, or engaging skills programs preparing them for trades". He hopes to have a positive impact on improving the educational outcomes for all the students of Culver Community Schools.
