CULVER- Culver Community Building Trades program has completed their most recent build for homeowners, Rusty and Kim Kerns. The build is a 1,600sq ft home featuring 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms with a 2-car attached garage and sits on a full basement. Construction on the home began with the 2020-2021 school year. The students involved in the building process include Clayton Acock, Matthew Bailey, Owen Clinger, Kenan Collins, Donny Degard, Tucker Fisher, Grady Flagg, Jonathon Gregg, Josh Havron, Alex Kraftor, Gavin Martinez, Boyd Miller, Bryar Roberts, Matthew Schaller, Gracey Sherman, Josh Stefan, Blake Thompson and Alex Zehner.

The home can be seen in person at 215 Lakeview Street, Culver. There is also an open house planned for those who would like to view the home in person. The open house will take place on Sunday, May 30th from 12p-4p.

This is the 42nd year for the building trades program. Kyle Elliot, building trades instructor, has been a part of this program for 28 years. The program included students from Culver, Knox and North Judson. There is a student application process to be accepted into the program and the program caps at 20 students. Students are assigned to either a morning or afternoon session, Monday through Friday and are to have their own transportation to and from the building site.

Home builds are complete in 9 months and are charged at 20% above materials. The program is accepting potential home builders, but the wait can be lengthy. Homes are to be less than a 10-minute drive from Culver High School and the home buyer is required to have the land ready to build when their name comes to the top of the list.
