2019 Studio CAHS May Testing

Each spring, students at The Classical Academies participate in the statewide testing program California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. The test results provide teachers, parents/guardians, and students information about students’ progress and readiness for college and career. The state has cut back drastically on testing, making these few tests extremely important in maintaining our charter and funding. We are asking for 100% PARTICIPATION AND EFFORT as we strive to maintain our high standing in this community, county, and state!

Social/Emotional Information

This year we have rolled out new Social Emotional Learning opportunities in your students Cohort. One of those pieces is the adoption of The YouSchool program. These guided, self-reflective conversations with peers and a trained YouSchool Guide (their Cohort teacher), is an opportunity for our students to grow in Self-Awareness, Self-Confidence, and Self-Direction.

A great supplement The YouSchool program provides are great Podcasts that you can choose to listen to with your student(s) to have meaningful conversations at home. We will be sharing with you the Podcasts which align with our monthly topics.

This month the topic is SQUAD. Focusing on building healthy relationships. Take the time to listen to SQUAD with your child, on The YouSchool Podcast. It is a great way to start meaningful conversations and stay connected!

If you have any questions or comments email Laura Hughes, our Lead School Social Emotional Counselor at lhughes@classicalacademy.com

Palomar Promise:We are excited to announce that the Palomar College FYE-Promise application for 2019- 2020 is now available. We encourage you to visit the Palomar Promise website for more information regarding eligibility, requirements and steps to apply. The website can be found at: http://www.palomar.edu/palomarpromise

For 2019-2020, we have expanded access to our Promise program, and removed the local district area and recent grad year restrictions. Also instead of a deadline, we will be taking applications on a first-come, first-served basis (pending program application submission, FAFSA/Dream Act receipt, and full-time enrollment).

To be eligible for 2019-2020 Palomar Promise, applicants must:

  • Be a first-time college student (units earned through dual/concurrent enrollment are exempt)

  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent

  • Be a California resident or from an eligible exempt group (i.e. AB 540 or military dependent)

  • Complete, submit and have on record with Palomar College the FAFSA or California Dream Act application

  • Complete the First-Year Experience (FYE) – Palomar Promise application

  • Enroll full-time (a minimum of 12 units) per semester throughout the first year

Discover Palomar Weekend events are quickly approaching and we want to share some important information with you. Discover Palomar is intended for new Palomar students to help them plan their first semester classes, meet other students, faculty, and staff, and learn about resources available. Discover Palomar consists of:

  • Group Academic Planning Sessions

  • Course Registration Assistance

  • Information Fair (Student Clubs, Campus Resources)

  • Walking Campus Tours

  • Parent Orientation Sessions (English & Spanish)

  • Financial Aid Workshops from 12pm – 2pm & 2pm – 4pm on 7/19, 7/26, 8/2

These Discover Palomar events are taking place at our main San Marcos campus as well as our Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, and Fallbrook Education Centers. Students may attend the location that’s most convenient for them regardless of where they plan to take classes. We are asking students to complete the online orientation prior to Discover Palomar to ensure they have enough time to select and register for classes while they are here. If they have attended any other colleges/universities or have AP scores with a score of 3 or higher, please encourage them to bring copies.

Discover Palomar appointments fill up fast. Please encourage students to sign up now at www.palomar.edu/discoverpalomar.
