Week at a Glance

Schedule Changes

The counseling Department will not be making any more schedule changes at this time. Please plan to walk out your current schedule next week. If a change is needed, the Google Link will reopen on Tuesday, January 22nd. Once the change is either granted or denied we will e-mail to notify.

You will need to then return the old schedule and pick up your new schedule from the front desk. The updated schedules will be on pink paper.


TEXTBOOK RETURN/PICK UP

All textbooks should be turned into Ms. Montgomery during finals week except for yearlong AP and Math classes. Please turn in your textbooks as soon as you are able (starting now) and no later than Thursday, after the last final exam. All textbooks are due to the textbook room by Thursday, January 17th at 1:00pm. All students returning books on or before Thursday, January 17th by 1:00pm will receive a raffle ticket and have a chance to win one of five $10 gift cards!

Friday - January 18

End of Quarter 2/Term 1 (Home Day – Finals Make Ups)

Friday, January 18 – If a student has not turned in their LP2 and LP3 Reading Logs, that student must come to school on Friday, January 18th and turn it in at the front desk. Some students may be required to report to a teacher on Friday, January 18 in order to make up a test, or to complete projects and assignments needed to pass a class. Students with an "excused" absence during final exams will be expected to report to the main office by 9 am on Friday to take their final exams. Please contact your teachers to let them know to expect you on Friday. The goal of this final day of the quarter is to give students a FINAL opportunity to make up any work that is permitted (according to class policy) in order to increase student success! Students who have COMPLETED ALL of their final exams and are CURRENT in all their classes must simply complete their 20 minutes of reading on Friday, but do not need to come to school.

Final Exams/Text Book Information

FINAL EXAMS: All classes will hold a final exam or final project so attendance is expected. Study hall will be available for students during each of the scheduled periods during the final exams but will not be available after 12:15 pm. Please make sure to arrange for transportation at 12:15 pm on Final Exam Days unless you have made arrangements with a teacher to stay after school!

College/Academics

Are you a current senior planning to attend Palomar College this coming Fall 2019?

Palomar College representatives will be coming to CAHS on Monday, January 28th at 10am in Room 107 to hold an application workshop. This will last approximately 2 hours. They will be helping students complete their Palomar College application and apply to the Promise Program. Please be sure to bring your 9 digit Social Security Number (please keep this safe and confidential) and an unofficial copy of your CAHS transcript (you can get this from your pathways portal). You will also complete the required online orientation during this time as well. If you have your own computer you can bring it, otherwise chrome books will be available in the classroom. Please take advantage of this free and convenient opportunity to start your postsecondary enrollment!

It is important that you mark all the colleges that have accepted you in Naviance. You do this by logging in to your Naviance account , click on the pencil edit icon in the "Colleges I am Applying to List" then mark the result.


IMPORTANT: AP TEST REGISTRATION- Classical Academy High School's AP Registration has will have an additional late fee beginning 11:59 PM on Tuesday, Jan 15, 2019.

The New Online AP Exam registration will begin on Mon, Sep 24, 2018 at 12:00 AM and end on Wed, Mar 6, 2019 at 11:59 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link that will be provided on Schoology or visit www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/054194.

Classical Academy High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning your online registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made and gives the option of avoiding mailing payment. Families do have the option of paying by check, although registration will not be finalized and complete until payment has been received and processed by Total Registration.

Mon, Mar 11, 2019 at 11:59 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.

Sat, Dec 15, 2018 at 11:59 PM - Last day to cancel an exam and receive a full refund.

Fri, Feb 22, 2019 at 11:59 PM - Last day to cancel an exam with a cancellation fee of $30.00.

Want to meet with the counselors? Parents and Students are welcome at lunch on January 23rd in room 107 for any questions regarding college or graduation requirements.

2019-2020 Course Selections are right around the corner!

The Counseling Dept will be holding grade specific course selection presentations for students and parents during the month of February. Additionally, they will be holding Parent Meetings during student lunch on Wednesdays and Friday Mornings through the month of February. Be looking in the following Communiques for specific meeting dates and times. At this time, we are asking that parents hold their questions until those meetings since we are busy planning and making important decisions for what will be offered and presented next year.

SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUESTS ARE NOW CLOSED. The link will reopen January 22nd through February 5th.


Reminder to all Senior Parents:The FAFSA (The Free Application for Federal Student Aid) site will open October 1st and will be based on the prior, prior tax year. In order to be considered for the CAL Grant, the FAFSA must be completed no later than March 2nd. Keep in mind that funds are limited, so please consider getting it filled out earlier.

NEW FAFSA APP:

The U.S. Department of Education has given the FAFSA a new look: A smartphone application for iOS and Android devices. This new mobile FAFSA app. will allow students easier access as they apply for financial aid. The app. has step by step instructions as students fill out their FAFSA application.

Seniors requesting transcripts to be sent to colleges: Please make sure you request transcripts through Naviance or through the Common Application. Please note that Naviance is not linked to the Common Application.

If you are needing teacher's or counselor letters of recommendation, you will need to request them through Naviance, by selecting their name and/or the Common Application by putting in their email address and asking them personally. All letters of recommendation need to be requested 2-3 weeks in advance of the deadline.

NCAC College Fair

The NACAC National College Fair is coming up on Thursday, April 18th and will be held at the San Diego Convention Center. This event is free and open to the public. CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT

Please bring in your official transcripts for the Fall semester ASAP.

Now is the time to sign up for community college classes. Spring Semester starts January 28th at Palomar and January 22nd at Mira Costa.

Palomar Promise:

We are excited to announce that the Palomar College FYE-Promise application for 2019- 2020 is now available. We encourage you to visit the Palomar Promise website for more information regarding eligibility, requirements and steps to apply. The website can be found at: http://www.palomar.edu/palomarpromise

For 2019-2020, we have expanded access to our Promise program, and removed the local district area and recent grad year restrictions. Also instead of a deadline, we will be taking applications on a first-come, first-served basis (pending program application submission, FAFSA/Dream Act receipt, and full-time enrollment).

To be eligible for 2019-2020 Palomar Promise, applicants must:

  • Be a first-time college student (units earned through dual/concurrent enrollment are exempt)

  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent

  • Be a California resident or from an eligible exempt group (i.e. AB 540 or military dependent)

  • Complete, submit and have on record with Palomar College the FAFSA or California Dream Act application

  • Complete the First-Year Experience (FYE) – Palomar Promise application

  • Enroll full-time (a minimum of 12 units) per semester throughout the first year

Caiman Athletes and Parents must attend this "Caiman Way" Sports Orientation before participating on any CAHS athletic teams. Parents and students are encouraged to attend and meet Mr. Chedly Benattia, Classical Academy's new Athletic Director.

Athletic Packet: Athletic Packets are due by Friday, February 1st to the front office in order to be ready to practice. Players are not allowed to practice without a completed Athletic Packet, including a sports physical. Athletes who have already completed the athletic packet for fall or winter sports do not have to complete a new one.

Electronic Athletic Clearance Packet Directions:

Academy High School has partnered with Rank One Sport Management to provide online form completion for all the required district mandated forms for participation in extracurricular activities.

The only forms in addition to this are the medical history and physical examination forms, which need to be printed off and taken to the doctor who is performing the physical and returned to the front office.

-Click on Start Online Forms in the blue box at the bottom of the page

-Choose the option of your choice.

By creating a parent account, you will be able to access documents, track eligibility of

your student athlete, management notification preferences, and more!

-You will be directed to the first page of participation forms.

-Parent/Guardian and the student will need to physically sign each form by holding the mouse over the space and signing the form. You may also use a tablet to complete the forms so that you may sign using your finger or a stylus.

-Click the SUBMIT form and the form will be completed and submitted. The next form should automatically come up.

-Complete and sign each form in the Electronic Forms dropdown menu.

-In order to submit a copy of insurance card, you will need to upload a .jpeg, .jpg, .png, or .gif file of your insurance card.

Once all have been completed; and the medical history and physical exam form has been turned into the FRONT DESK (Not a coach), the student will be eligible to participate.

Field of Faith Basketball Season

Field of Faith kicks off the 2019 basketball season on January 21 and will run for 11 weeks. Sign up now to reserve a spot for your 1st-8th grade athlete. Cost is $180 per student.
