If you are a current senior, please note that Cal State, UC universities and many, many others are no longer requiring the SAT or ACT as a part of the admissions process. Some universities however are offering an SAT on their own campuses with scores that cannot be transferred but are using those results for their own scholarship purposes. Please check with your list of colleges/universities to see what they are requiring for both admissions and for merit scholarships.

CSU Applications Opened October 1st!

The priority application period for the Fall 2021 semester opens on Thursday, October 1, 2020, and closes on Friday, December 4, 2020. We recommend you start now and encourage you to apply early!

Validation is Here! Students are highly encouraged to find their high school, so they do not need to manually enter their high school coursework, complete a-g matching and ensure validation is properly applied. Students can now search for their high school using the CEEB code. CAHS CEEB code is 054194.

Cal State Apply Submission Review! The application has been updated with a Submission Review page. The page provides key academic and application information that students may need to review. Please be sure to review this information carefully and correct any issues prior to submission.

SAT and ACT Test Scores

  • The CSU has temporarily suspended the use of SAT and ACT test scores for admission purposes. To find more information on the admission requirements for Fall 2021 please visit the First-time Freshman Guidance.

  • If SAT and ACT test scores are submitted, the CSU will use scores for placement in English and mathematics courses. Please visit the CSU Student Success site for additional information on placement. If a student has not taken a test, they can opt out of the Standardized Tests section of Cal State Apply.

CSU Video and Campus Virtual Tour Links

  • A new CSU overview video and virtual tour links for all 23 campuses have been placed in one central location. These are located under the Choosing a Campus section of the Cal State Apply web site.

Reminders & Clarifications

College- Dual Enrollment Coursework - If students have taken college classes while in high school on their own or through a formal dual enrollment program, they should specify on the application that they are graduating high school senior with college credit. Any college courses taken that will appear on a college transcript should be reported on the College Coursework page. For more information please see the College-Dual Enrollment Coursework Guidance.

Don’t miss the deadline to apply for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). This Program is designed for students who are historically disadvantaged (i.e., low income for several years, first-generation college student, inner-city or migrant family). Some but not all campuses have a deadline of December 4, 2020 for EOP applicants. Even if a student has submitted their application to the CSU, they can still go back into Cal State Apply to indicate they are interested in applying for EOP if they haven’t missed the campus’s deadline. To check the deadline for the campus(es), go to EOP Admission by Term (also available as a PDF). Also, at least one of the recommendations must be from someone who knows the students’ academic history, such as a teacher or counselor. The other recommendation can be from an individual who can comment about student’s potential to succeed in college but cannot be the student or a family member.

DACA, undocumented or AB540 students should enter “None” as their citizenship status. Under “Residency,” they should select “California” as their state of residency if they consider California their home.

There have been changes in impaction on both campuses and degree programs for the 2021-22 academic year. Impaction means that there are more qualified applicants for a program or campus than can be accommodated. For the most current information, visit the Impaction center on Calstate.edu.

CSU/UC & Common Application: Reporting High School Coursework Grades:

For the UC/CSU and Common App schools, students should input grades as semester since CAHS issues 2 final grades per course (not 4 final grades, which can be typical for a quarter system). The "A” portion or “1st half" of a grade will be semester 1-Fall and the "B” portion or 2nd half" of a grade will be semester 2-Spring. The courses for senior year should have a "planned" or "in progress" option to select and those should be marked as semester grades as well.

School Meals Available at Community Locations

On October 9, 2020, the USDA extended the summer grab-and-go school meal program to encompass the entire school year. Children are eligible to receive meals regardless of school or district of attendance. School districts are working hard to implement the new guidelines and meet local needs. Locally, we are aware of meal services in Escondido, Oceanside, and Vista. Please visit their websites for more information. To find out when your neighborhood school will be ready to participate in this program, please visit 20/21 Meal Sites for Students.

NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT CLASSICAL ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL

Marcus Preciado takes role of Athletic Director

ESCONDIDO, Calif. – Marcus Preciado is the new Athletic Director at Classical Academy High School. Preciado has been leading corporate and non-profit teams for over 25 years and has over a decade of experience coaching rec, club, and high school sports; including serving as a football coach at CAHS.

“Marcus clearly exemplifies our organization's cultural values and recognizes the role that athletics can play in the development of the whole student-athlete,” states Dean of Students, Alex Boshaw. “His experience working with professional coaches and athletes, sports leagues, and corporate sponsorships allow CAHS athletes to succeed.”

Preciado’s four children have attended Classical Academy schools, including two who have graduated from CAHS and now play college sports. His daughter plays soccer for Westmont and his son plays football for Stanford.

“I grew up playing baseball, soccer, and football. I eventually attended SDSU on a football scholarship,” States Preciado. “My family has benefitted from CAHS’ programs and leadership and I am looking forward to being a part of the athletic department. I hope to build and maintain an athletics program where everyone involved gives their best effort along with their best attitude."

Principal Moen is very excited for Mr. Preciado to join the Caiman athletic Department, saying "Mr. Preciado understands that athletics is simply one platform to impact our student-athletes as we prepare them for success on and off the field and most importantly for success in life!"
