Some students may be required to report to a teacher on Friday, in order to make up a test, or to complete projects and assignments needed to pass a class. Students with an excused absence during final exams will be expected to report to campus by 9 am on Friday to take their final exams. Please contact your teachers to let them know to expect you on Friday. The goal of this final day is to give students a FINAL opportunity to make up any work that is permitted (according to class policy) in order to increase student success!

Special Bell Schedule on Tuesday, October 22, 2019
CAHS Studio will have a special bell schedule on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 to accommodate a longer cohort period. During cohort, teachers will show a 30-minute video called "Say Something" that encourages students to say something to a trusted adult if they suspect that a student is a threat to themselves or others. Funding for this video was provided by the Sandy Hook Promise in an effort to reduce school violence across America.

URGENT: AP TEST REGISTRATION HAS BEGUN AND WILL END ON NOVEMBER 14th
The College Board has rolled out BIG changes for the 2019/2020 school year. Our NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION SIGNUP for AP exams is now live. AP teachers should have handed out Join Codes on September 10th. Signing up for AP exams is now a simple 2 step process. Students will register on College Board AND will need to pay on Total Registration. Please sign up by October 14th to avoid any late fee.The first deadline that will incur a late fee will be October 15th.This fee is $20. The FINAL high school order for all AP Classes will be placed on November 15th. Any late registrations allowed, will result in a $40 late fee. https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/054194
SENIORS- IMPORTANT FAFSA AND CAL GRANT INFO
Reminder to all Senior Parents: The FAFSA (The Free Application for Federal Student Aid)/ CA Dream Act Application sites opened October 1st and will be based on the prior, prior tax year. In order to be considered for the CAL Grant, the FAFSA/CA Dream Act Application must be completed no later than March 2nd. Keep in mind that funds are limited, so please consider getting it filled out earlier. Remember to create your WebGrant 4 Students account to check the status of your Cal Grant eligibility and to be able to receive your awarded funds ONE week after submitting your FAFSA application. .

JUNIORS AND SENIORS!
Get ahead of the school year by registering for the SAT. The deadline to register for the October 5 SAT is September 6. The late registration deadline for that test date is September 24th. The following SAT testing date is November 2nd. The deadline to register for that test date is October 3rd and the late registration deadline is October 22nd. Please visit the link for more upcoming testing dates. Prepare for test day by utilizing Khan Academy's free test-prep services.

Seniors requesting transcripts to be sent to colleges: Please make sure you request transcripts through Naviance or through the Common Application. Please note that Naviance is not linked to the Common Application.

If you are needing teacher's or counselor letters of recommendation, you will need to request them through Naviance, by selecting their name and/or the Common Application by putting in their email address and asking them personally. All letters of recommendation need to be requested 2-3 weeks in advance of the deadline. If you have a deadline of November 1st for your college application, please be sure to request your counselor and teacher recommendations by no later than October 17th.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation invests in exceptional students who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others. Know a high school senior who fits the bill? Horatio Alger Association
As one of the nation's largest need-based college scholarship programs in the country, the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs specifically assist high school students who've faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who've exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, in addition to having critical financial need.
The online application is open until October 25 for undergraduate scholarships.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
Scholarships can open doors for students who aspire to go to college but don't have the funds. The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. In addition to the monetary award, Cooke scholars receive comprehensive educational advising, significant cohort-based programming, and graduate school funding, as well as access to a thriving network of more than 2,600 fellow Cooke scholars and alumni.
The Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program application (exclusively through the Common App) closes November 13, 2019.

Caiman Mountain Bike Team
Beginning in 2020 the Caiman Mountain Bike team will be returning as a winter/spring sport for Classical Academy High School! This team participates as part of the larger SoCal League (www.socaldirt.org), now in its 12th year! Spots are open for any 9-12th grader, beginning to advanced rider. A team of experienced coaches will provide student-athletes with opportunities to ride the local trails, meet other riders, learn new skills and challenge themselves in OPTIONAL competitions in a safe and enjoyable manner. Practices will be held 3x a week at various trails in North County. Not all practices must be attended each week to be on the team. (Some students do another sport while participating on the mountain bike team.) Coaches are both male and female.
Practices begin in January and will be held on Monday & Thursday after school and Saturday mornings. The season also includes optional campouts, skills clinics, volunteer trail work, female-only rides and summer camp. Student Community Service Opportunity
San Pasqual Union Elementary School's annual Harvest Night celebration will be held on Saturday, October 26th from 5-8pm and we're looking for high school volunteers to work at various booths and stations throughout the evening. This event is not possible without volunteers and in the past we have had great support from local high schools students!
