Volunteers at Kids4Kids engage with the flagship Buddy Reading program, where volunteers read, play, and engage with underserved children in community centres across Hong Kong. Volunteers also help the organisation with several annual initiatives such as Action for a Cause and Sharing for a Cause. CIS students taking part in this service are required to volunteer once a week and meet on Thursday lunchtimes to plan for their sessions.
Our goal
Cultivate children’s interests in reading as a hobby, boosting their confidence to use English their daily lives, and improving their linguistics skills.
Expectations
We have a meeting every Thursday lunch which all students are expected to attend. The purpose of this lunchtime meeting is to create session plans for the following week. Students will help organize and run a stall for fundraising at the CIS School Fair, look out for events and opportunities organized by K4K, and promote them to the CIS student body. Students can join either the Friday afternoon or Saturday morning session to teach children at different sites for an hour. The sessions include warm-up activities, group readings, vocabulary enrichment, hands-on activities and paired readings.
