Description
Working in conjunction with the music and dance branches of Second Strings, volunteers for this theatre branch would share their enthusiasm for drama with underserved refugee children in Hong Kong, by engaging them in fun theatre games, activities, and exercises. The aim is to help develop confidence, collaboration skills, and creativity in young asylum seekers, to enrich their lives and help them feel more integrated into Hong Kong. The goal for the end of the year would be a small theatrical production.
Our goal
We aim to design and create a theatrical production featuring the children in our program. This play would likely be combined with the Second Strings music and dance performances for a comprehensive performing arts showcase.
Expectations
VIRTUAL PLAN:
Host a weekly Zoom meeting for one hour, in which you will engage with the students through theatre games and activities. These include but certainly are not limited to: grandma's footsteps, find the leader, spacejump, etc. As this will take place online, it's recommended you lead drama exercises that focus less on physicality and more on character, tone, and expression.
IN PERSON PLAN:
Meet with students at your chosen location and time to engage in drama games and exercises. Later in the year, we can come together as a service branch to develop and workshop a play that features the students.
Planning Time: None unless specified.
Service Day: Saturdays (3:30-4:30)
Skills Required
We are looking for volunteers who are passionate, organized, open to getting out of their comfort zone, and preferably interested/experienced in theatre.
