Hong Kong is home to nearly 14,000 refugees and asylum seekers, one of the most impoverished social groups in the city. One of the often overlooked aspect of the adversity that refugees face in Hong Kong is a lack of resources and support for the children. In collaboration with Branches of Hope, an organisation based in Hong Kong dedicated to supporting and seeking justice for marginalised groups in Hong Kong, RAMP will be a weekly service focused on supporting the development and growth refugee kids through big sib little sib mentoring as well as weekly activities, reminiscent of a youth group.
What does weekly volunteering look like?
Virtual Plan
Volunteers will be paired up with a child from Branches of Hope in a big sibling little sibling buddy system. Weekly zoom calls will be organised with the main goal of the pairs getting comfortable and getting to know each other while doing a planned activity of their choice (eg. Board games, arts and crafts, educational online games etc.).
In Person Plan
We will all meet together once a week at the Branches of Hope facility in Wan Chai. We will be doing group activities and games such as card games, learning to solve a Rubik’s cube, Mafia, learning chess etc.) The main objective of these weekly meetings is to build a relationship between the students and the children as well as building a community where the kids feel safe, supported and are in an environment where they can grow and mature.
