Checklist for promoting service projects to parents
(1) Write a short blurb for WhatsApp and Social Media.
Decide who is the target audience (Primary parents / secondary parents)
Introduce yourself and your student group (e.g. My name is John Doe and I am a Year 12 CIS Student. I lead the student service group, DITO, which aspires to promote sustainability in our community.)
Describe your project and how parents can help. Make it short, concise and to the point.
Mention the name of the affiliated NGO but there is probably not a need to go into detail of what they do. Parents can easily search them up. The focus should be on the CIS students’ efforts which parents would want to support, rather than the NGOs which parents can easily access themselves if they wanted to.
Is there a limit on participants? If the limit on numbers is small, think about whether you really want to broadcast to the entire parent community, or just advertise via word of mouth instead. Is it first-come-first serve or are you going to choose who gets to participate?
Include clear location / cost details and any participation requirements.
Include key dates and deadlines, if any. When will you get back to them with a confirmation?
Include a contact detail, such as telephone number or email address, in case parents have questions.
If there is a signup link, make sure the link is accessible to the public. Parents may not have google accounts. Test the link using a non-CIS device to make sure it works.
(2) Design a poster to go with the blurb for social media.
(3) Email the blurb and poster to Ms. Uttam for approval.
(4) Once approved, email CISPTA <cispta@cis.edu.hk> with your promotion request and attach Ms. Uttam’s email approval so that CISPTA communication team will have the authority to promote for you.
