MerciHK (“Thank You Hong Kong”) aims to mobilize the expat community to support Hong Kong through the coronavirus pandemic. We aim to pool resources from the expat community (in the form of financial support or donation of goods or services) to support local communities particularly impacted by Covid-19 (our main targets for this year will be healthcare workers, first responders, and the elderly).
We made our first action over the summer, teaming up with a local restaurant company to organize meal donations to hospital staff at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (one of the few hospitals treating Covid patients in Hong Kong) and have delivered 1,000 meals to date.
In this service, we will be planning and creating similar actions as well as enrolling more expat owned businesses to develop new actions.
Our goal
So far, MerciHK has had an impact on 1 public hospital in Hong Kong. Our aim for the 2020-21 year is to have impacted 4 other public hospitals treating Covid-19 patients in Hong Kong.
Expectations
There are 3 types of roles in this program:
(1) Sponsor recruiting: identifying and signing up sponsors amongst the expat community who are willing to provide financial support or donate goods or services;
(2) Partnership development: seek to support local charities or service groups;
(3) Action execution: identify and organize specific actions (MerciHK direct action or MerciHK partnership with local charity).
In this CAS program, online learning will not disrupt our plans as we will be meeting on a weekly basis every Friday from 3:15-4:00pm (whether that be virtually or in-person) to coordinate the 3 streams: establish objectives, report on progress, and monitor implementation. We aim to have at least one action day per month which would be at a moment that is not disruptive (for example, in the morning of a weekend).
Planning Time: (Open to change depending on member availability) Monday 3:15-4:00pm, contact through Whatsapp in between
Service Day: 1 weekend morning per month (times can vary from 1-2h anytime between 9:30am-12:00pm)
Skills Required
No specific skills are required for this activity; we are looking for people who are passionate, organised, dedicated, and want to help
