ChickenSoup tutors local primary school children, assisting them in subjects such as Mathematics, Chinese (Mandarin), and English. During normal time, CIS students act as teaching assistants at the centre in Chai Wan. For the period of COVID-19, sessions will be carried out virtually through video call instead.
Normally we have two sessions every weekday (4 - 5:30pm and 5:30 - 7:00pm). Students choose one specific 45-minute session to attend weekly.
During COVID-19, we will have one session per weekday (Monday-Friday) from 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm. Each student volunteer chooses one day and attends weekly.
Our goal
We aim to continue our sessions every weekday, while expanding to include other activities (e.g. Holiday-themed events). However this will largely depend on whether we are able to return to in-person sessions.
Expectations
During COVID-19, each student will be required to attend one 45-minute virtual session per week. During the sessions, the students will help the children with their homework. We are considering including more activities during the sessions, but this is still being discussed. All information will be spread through the Whatsapp group. There will be no weekly meetings, but students may occasionally be required to spend some time outside of tutoring sessions to finish various admin tasks (e.g. signing up for their sessions, helping the children if they have problems with zoom, etc.) After COVID-19 has passed, the requirement will still be to attend one session per week, but the timings and length of the sessions will likely be different from the virtual sessions.

No specific skills are required, but it is preferred that volunteers are proficient in Mandarin and/or Cantonese in order to communicate with the children.
