Second Strings

At second strings, students will be able to spread their love for music to underprivileged children of asylum seekers, either by teaching singing, dancing or a selection of instruments

Time: Wednesday afternoons, Saturday Mornings

Locations: Chungking Mansions TST (wed), The Vine Church Wanchai (Sat)

Goal: Our goal is to eventually organise a concert with a combination of the songs taught during service hours. We are considering inviting other music programs at different schools to also come participate, and are looking for ways to expand.

(we've just launched both theatre and dance branches led by new service leaders! Make sure to contact Isabella Wei and Reina Lim if you're interested in dance, or Allyson Ye and Heather Irvine if you're interested in theatre)

Our goal

To organise one complete concert with performances from our program and different schools. Hopefully, we can spread enough awareness for parents of the children and anyone interested to form an audience. If possible, expand Second Strings and the concert to also include different forms of art (eg visual art or theatre)

Expectations

Virtual Plan: Students will be hosting online zoom music classes for the children. The instrument and subjects taught are still under consideration as not all instruments may be accessible/easy to teach online. This will typically last for up to an hour; Lesson plans will usually incorporate exercises and games, with the addition of time designated for learning songs. In Person Plan: Students will transport to the locations they have chosen, and provide in person classes of the same format (exercises/games and song learning) for roughly an hour.

Skills Required

• Experience with singing, dancing, or musical instruments

• Preferably proficient in Mandarin or Cantonese

• Looking for keyboard players to aid with singing lessons
