Assessment strategies follow the goals and learning outcomes as explained in the course. They are aligned with teaching and learning strategies. This course seeks to ensure that testing is based on the demands and the judgment placed on progress and growth, within the various assessed units.
Practical Coursework
The student is expected to attend all required scheduled classes and participate actively in class discussions. Active participation and engagement provide the student the opportunity to apply the technique and to develop communication and listening skills. Students will be assessed on their progress, understanding of the practice, discipline, development and application of practical and collaborative skills. Students will be assessed on the quality of their work, their commitment and their ability to work respectfully with the other team members.
Practical (Demonstration and Presentation)
Practical demonstration focuses on the student’s ability to apply the techniques and approaches covered in a specific class. The practical demonstration requires them to apply theories, ideas, skills, processes, and methodologies. The student will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through practical application in the projects assigned, or in an exercise or a rehearsal task (for performance based modules)
Production Performance (Live Performance)
A live performance is a collaborative process that involves the staging of a performance event for a live audience. Students will take on roles in an interdisciplinary performance where they will be assessed on their crafting and composition of the material, and their capacity to the audience, as well as their collaborative skills with one another.
The student will be assessed on the quality of their performance, their commitment and their ability to work respectfully with the director’s/choreographer’s aims, goals and vision for each role through the rehearsal process and the performances during production weeks. The student will also be assessed on the quality their performance, their commitment and their ability to work respectfully with the performance team, design and production team through the rehearsal process and the performances during production weeks.
Creative Portfolio
Students may be required to prepare a portfolio with examples and samples of their work from past performances and productions. (for performance based modules)
The student will be required to prepare a portfolio with relevant case studies, motivations of the industry, and practical approaches, combined with critical commentaries and reflections.
Written Assignment
Assignment briefs are developed based on bridging practical and theoretical understanding. These briefs may require a response to performances and practice-based work, or include case studies.
This develops the student’s ability to research, analyze and communicate ideas both verbally and visually. Students will be assessed on the quality of their research, critical thinking and presentation skills.
Examination
Examinations or tests (the more traditional method of testing) are some units in course. This is where the student is required to recall information related to a specific idea, theory or information. Students will apply their understanding in short-response, multiple-choice questions or through responses to visual or aural examples that were taught in the modules, and stimuli. In some circumstances the application of practical techniques may be assessed under examination conditions.
