If a romantic or sexual relationship develops between individuals in positions of unequal authority, it is mandatory for the person in the position of greater authority to disclose the relationship. This disclosure should be made by completing a Conflict of Interest disclosure form.
Upon receipt of the disclosure, the Office of Human Resources, in collaboration with Management, will review the circumstances. This review is crucial to ensure that alternative supervisory arrangements are put in place to mitigate any conflict of interest. This process may involve the development of an Administrative and Operational Plan to manage the situation effectively.
Failure to promptly disclose such a relationship by a Supervising Officer can lead to disciplinary action, which may include suspension or termination of employment. It is important to note that prompt disclosure, while crucial, does not alone guarantee compliance with this policy.
Determining whether a policy violation has occurred will be based on an individual assessment of each case, taking into consideration the specific facts and circumstances of each relationship.
