If a staff member suspects academic misconduct, they report it to the Program Head and/or the Dean of the Faculty.
The Program Head and/or Dean of the Faculty conduct an initial review to categorize the misconduct as unintended, minor, or major. The student may be invited to a meeting with the Program Head, Dean of Faculty, and an academic staff member from a different Faculty of Program to discuss the issue. The student should be aware that this could lead to a formal allegation of academic misconduct.
If the misconduct is deemed minor or unintended, an educative response may be implemented. This could involve a formal warning from the Program Head or the Dean of the Faculty, rather than punitive action.
If the misconduct is determined to be major, deliberate, or calculated, the Dean of Faculty will inform the student that a disciplinary process will commence. The matter will then be referred to the Chief Academic Officer.
If the Chief Academic Officer decides that an investigation is warranted, the case will be referred to the Committee of Academic Misconduct.
This committee includes
Chief Academic Officer (Chair),
Dean of Faculty (from the same program),
Program Head (from a different program),
Lecturer (from a different program)
The student will be notified of the allegations and the process.
The student will attend a hearing where the Committee of Academic Misconduct will review the evidence. The Committee will make a decision and, if necessary, impose a penalty in accordance with the Academic Board Regulation. The Chief Academic Officer will report the findings, results, and consequences to the Academic and Examination Board.
The Dean of the Faculty will inform the student of the Committee's findings and decision.
The student has the right to appeal this decision.
The Dean of the Faculty will then inform the Office of Student Affairs, who will update the student's records accordingly.
