Appeal Process for Academic Misconduct Decisions
Capital College acknowledges the right of students to appeal against decisions made by the Academic Misconduct Committee. The appeals process is designed to ensure that every student is treated fairly and justly.
Lodging an Appeal: If a student disagrees with the decision made by the Academic Misconduct Committee, they may lodge an appeal. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the Chief Academic Officer within 15 working days from the date of receiving the written notification of the decision. The appeal should clearly state the grounds on which it is being made and must be supported by relevant evidence.
Review by the Chief Academic Officer: Upon receiving the appeal, the Chief Academic Officer will conduct a preliminary review. This review is to ensure that the appeal is valid and has been lodged within the stipulated timeframe.
Referral to the Academic and Examination Board: If the appeal is deemed valid, the Chief Academic Officer will forward it to the Academic and Examination Board. The Board will thoroughly review the appeal, taking into consideration the evidence presented and the initial decision made by the Academic Misconduct Committee.
Final Decision: The Academic and Examination Board will deliberate and make a final decision on the appeal. This decision is final and binding. The student will be notified in writing of the outcome of their appeal.
Record Update: Following the final decision, the student's academic record will be updated accordingly. If the appeal is successful, any penalties imposed by the Academic Misconduct Committee will be rescinded or adjusted as per the Board's decision.
Please note that the appeal process is not intended to re-evaluate the student's academic work but to ensure that the original decision was made fairly and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.
