Talk moves are a dynamic and effective teaching strategy that encourages active student participation and fosters meaningful discussions. Talk moves are specific sentence frames and forms that empower students to facilitate and participate in conversations and promote higher-order thinking. They also empower students to take ownership of their learning by fostering independent thought, evidence-based arguments, critical thinking, active listening, and respectful communication skills. Additionally, talk moves help teachers gauge student understanding, identify misconceptions, and tailor their instruction accordingly.
