"SQUEEPERS" is a strategy that trains students to use cognitive and metacognitive strategies to process nonfiction text. The steps are Survey - Question - Predict - Read - Respond - Summarize
SQP2RS is a framework for reading expository texts. It includes the following steps:
1. Surveying—students scan the text for 1-2 minutes
2. Questioning—(with or without teacher guidance) students create questions that are likely to be answered by reading the text
3. Predicting—students think about what they think they’ll learn based on questions generated in step 2
4. Reading—students read the text, searching for answers to their questions and validate or refute their predictions
5. Responding—students answer questions and create new ones for the next portion of the text to be read
6. Summarizing—in writing or orally, students summarize the key concepts explained in the text
PRO TIP! During the summarizing phase, use a Total Response Signal and Summarize Sentence stems from the Academic Language Toolkit
