Why in the world would someone take a journalism class for three years? Well simple just ask Ashleigh Green why she did, it was definitely not just for the journalism field trip...well maybe.
When asked why she wanted to join Badin’s newspaper team, Green explained how she found out about it during her freshman year.
“I wanted to write. I love writing and I wanted to be able to write without the boundaries you get when writing an essay,” Green said, “Plus, I liked having Mrs. Mac as my English teacher freshman year so when I heard this class was available and she would teach it I was sold.”
With her passion for writing there was nothing stopping her. Green was now able to write about stories she knew others would be interested in. Green mainly writes about upcoming movies or the latest news happening in or outside of school.
In 2020, during the big rise in Marvel TV shows, Green had personally watched and wrote about each one for her readers. She herself being a Marvel fan, kept everyone up to date. However, just because Mrs. Mac was the teacher and Green could write about anything she wanted, wasn’t the only thing keeping her in the class.
“It was just a fun environment. I always looked forward to the class everyday and spending time with my friends.” Green said, “It’s definitely made me a stronger writer and it’s also helped me break out of my introverted shell a bit.”
Being in the class brought her many benefits, her writing became stronger and she was able to make new friends. While taking the class Green found a career path she may go into, film media and possibly writing a book or two.
At the beginning she believed she was going to just be a journalist or novelist, however her mind changed. It will be sad to see Green leave the Badin banner after this year, but who knows where her writing will take her.
