Most people know of the character Batman both through the comics and through the film industry. The character is one of the hardest roles to play physically and mentally for any actor. It is also one of the roles that’s had so many different actors put their own spin on each iteration of the character and each installment has been personalized each time by those actors.
Batman is well known for all of this, but above all he’s considered to be one of the many superheroes in the DC universe. But the character within the pages of his comics wasn’t just a hero who fought all of these villains. He wasn’t just the guy with the money and the gadgets. Or another member of the Justice League ready to fight all of the bad guys side by side.
Matt Reeves' “The Batman” shows a side of the character that hasn’t been displayed on the big screen before. If fans of the DC universe and the character expected an action heavy movie, they’d be surprised at how little action there really was during the entirety of the film. The noir murder mystery style of the film sets it apart from others, especially with how grounded the storyline of the film was with Gotham City.
It was pulled straight from the comics through DC’s latest Batman series, “The Long Halloween” and the movie lived up to the expectations set for itself. The detective side of Batman’s character was shown most prominently throughout the duration of the film and it was a risk for Robert Pattinson’s iteration on the character.
This film has had many skeptics for this reason as well as fans for Pattinson’s version of The Batman. Would it be good? Would it live up to the expectations the trailer had set for it? Was Robert Pattinson a good choice for the role?
All of these questions were valid but as the critics roll out their verdict of the film at an astounding 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. “The Batman” has reached Pixar level ratings and it’s only been out for two days. In second place for Batman movie scores is Tim Burton’s “Batman Begins” and Christopher Nolan's “The Dark Knight Rises”. It’s safe to say that this film is one of the best versions of Batman on the big screen.
Not only are the critics enjoying the movie, but fans alike as well. This was the version of Batman fans of the character had been longing to see on screen and their wish is finally being fulfilled. It’s no wonder this solo Batman movie has the highest ratings so far, it’s exactly what the people wanted and with the director being a fan of the character as well there was no way this film could have gone wrong.
Fans and critics alike are praising Pattinson for his portrayal of the dark knight, but also on the casting of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis’s Alfred, Jeffery Wright’s Leuitent Gordon, Collin Farell as Penguin, and Paul Dano’s Riddler. All respected and beloved characters within the franchise and clearly done justice here in this film.
Overall, this film is one to be remembered for the DC Extended Universe and many fans are looking forward to spin off TV shows such as “The Penguin” and “Gotham PD” as well as a potential sequel to this iteration of Batman.
