Ellie Gibbons: swimming sensation

Badin High School has always had a pretty successful swimming program. It has drawn many people to Badin over the years, one of whom is senior Ellie Gibbons. For Ellie, swimming is more than a sport. It's a lifestyle.
“It's made me stay on top of being active and on top of things. It's always been a staple, something I've always done and wanted to do,” Gibbons said.
Ellie has been swimming for years for countless groups such as Badin, New London Hills Swim Club, Hamilton and GMVY. Out of all of these groups, New London is her all time favorite.
“It's very fun because there are kids of all ages. It goes all the way from 6 and unders to 18 year olds. It's cute because we would do a big brother big sister system that helped the little kids feel more comfortable,” Gibbons said.
Ellie is a very skilled swimmer, mainly swimming the 100 meter backstroke, 50 meter freestyle, 200 meter IM, and the medley and free relays. She has slowly perfected these events due to her countless years swimming. Joining the Badin Swim Team, Ellie has found a new home.
“I feel like I've always enjoyed it, especially now on the Badin team because all her friends from New London are on the Badin team so I can still see them outside of classes. The friends can encourage you to do what you want, and the coaches have helped make things easier and not worrying. Friends as teammates really help to make the sport very fun as well,” Gibbons said.
Badin is happy to have Ellie Gibbons, and she's just as happy to have Badin. Everyone is looking forward to seeing her swim for her senior season.
