Mindfulness has a significant impact on wellbeing. Mindfulness is defined as paying attention to the present moment. While wellbeing is having a positive physical, social and mental state. Being mindful has many benefits. It helps manage well being and mental health. It also affects the person's whole health including the mind, brain, body, behavior and relationship with others.
Being mindful can help those who experience mental health problems including stress, anxiety and depression. Or it can just be a tool to promote equilibrium through the mind and body.
“There will always be someone or something to help you if you’re struggling with mental health, you just have to make the effort, ” Hailey Jacobs said.
Although having good mental health can come from being mindful it doesn’t have to stop there. It can also come from finding people to surround yourself with to help you along the way.
“Before Kairos I felt like I walked through life and didn’t pay attention to the important things. But Matthew Siegler said that there are winning streaks each day. So now I go through life and look for them in each moment. This made me so much more mindful about the important things in life,” Elizabeth Kreimer said.
As Kreimer stated, there are so many effects that mindfulness has on a person if you take the time to separate yourself and let it come to you.
“I think mindfulness is important because it sets your day up. Because if you don't have a good mindset you're not going to have a good day. So really, it’s not manifestation, it's affirmation,” Megan Covey said.
The practice of mindfulness can also help give insight into emotions, boost attention, concentration and improve relationships. This technique can be practiced in many ways including breathing exercises, body scans, mindful walking, mindful eating and mindful listening.
A quote from the Mental Health Foundation stated, “It’s actually very empowering to know that I can control my reactions and feelings in any situation without others even being aware of it".
