Super bowl weekend brought a lot of upsets to not only the Badin community, but all Bengal's fans around the world. However, even with the loss, the game did bring us some good things as well such as new Marvel trailers!
One of the first commercials debuted for the Super bowl related to Marvel. Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness, obviously, but a quick TV Spot for Marvel’s Moon Night, the newest show soon to be released on Disney+, was displayed as well.
You can learn more about Moon Night in “The Multiverse of Theories” Podcast (which also has a lot of other theories and discussions on what’s to come for the MCU). There will be an episode dedicated to Moon Night once the show is released.
But this article is here to describe everything we know about the latest and upcoming installment in the MCU based on the trailer and why it will surely be one of the best movies ever made by Marvel.
Which means potential spoilers for this upcoming film! You have been warned!
Starting off we enter Doctor Strange’s “nightmare” experience where he appears to be in a different reality due to the sanctum, the building within New York that Strange resides in, being turned into a inky black mist.
Similar to when Doctor Strange Supereme attempted to bring Christine back to life and out of the fixed point in time in the show What If?. In the process, he ended up turning his universe into that black mist and being the last one left in the end.
Oh, and because there’s a bunch of skulls and bones on the ground to signal this isn’t the MCU we know to us viewers.
After this, we get to see the inside of the sanctum where there’s a staircase up to the sky and we get a glimpse at the Karma Taj being attacked. A brief moment with Doctor Stranged looking worried at something off screen before transitioning to America Chavez, or Miss America, being held up in the sky of her reality, the Utopian Parallel.
Chavez is currently being held from her limbs by this ribbon monster while her home is being left to ruins around her but what makes this moment significant is the star portals behind her. In the comics, Chavez has the ability to make portals to alternate universes with these portals and it is speculated that this is the moment she receives her powers in the film.
Right after that we see Chavez and Defeder Strange, another alternate reality version of Doctor Strange who’s dedicated his life to doing good, before our Doctor Strange wakes up in bed from his “nightmare” with beautifully shot image of strange in the reflection of a broken watch. Symbolizing how he has played god and altered reality far too much, it is now time for him to receive the consequences of his actions which we later see in the trailer.
The Marvel logo scrolls across the screen and then we jump right back into the trailer with Strange using red magic, like Wanda’s, in front of a figure and looking concerned over one of the glowing red orbs that appeared before shoving the magic back inside of a book.
With a quick transitioning shot over the New York skyline before we hear Wong tell Strange that he “cannot control everything” and that he opened “the doorway between universes and we don’t know who or what will walk through it.” while showing New York City slipping away into the inky mass like the sanctum did in Strange’s dream before transitioning from Wong looking afraid at something coming towards the Karma Taj, supposedly the attack shown earlier.
But then we get to see Christine Palmer, former love interest to Stephen Strange, on her wedding rushing out of the church looking concerned and then the scene swithces to show civillians running away from something, probably the one eyed tentacle monster shown later on in the trailer.
Then the trailer fades to black before finally revelaing Wanda in a new Scarlet Witch costume compared to where we saw her at the end of WandaVision.
She is seen surrounded by candles and under a red light and as the camera zooms in to her face and her eyes open, viewers are able to see the tips of Wanda’s fingers are blackened just like Agatha’s in WandaVision which is a sign that dark magic is being used. Agatha utilized dark magic during the show and formerly occupied the Darkhold, a magical book full of dark magic, which Wanda in now in possession of.
The scene fades to black once more and we can see Wanda and Strange in a white flower tree orchard and this is where Strange asks Wanda what she knows about the multiverse.
As Wanda talks about how Vision believed that the multiverse was dangerous, the scene switches back to the Karma Taj being swallowed whol by a dark cloud framed over the character Rintrah, an eight-foot tall alien minotaur who is skilled in magic within the comics.
As Strange says “he was right” in response to what Wanda said, we see him floating over the Karma Taj, looking afraid of what was coming to harm the magical place. “This year” flashes by the screen before transitioning to a metal door being opened by Strange, Chavez, and Christine as the camera spins to show the destroyed Utopian Parellel America Chavez called home.
Another fade to black before we see Mordo, a previous sorcerer and was seen in the first Doctor Strange movie, talking to Strange about how his actions and how they have altered reality are now something he must receive the consequences of while we see the Empire State building being parallel to the streets of New York and the world once again being showed to fade into that black mist.
As Strange gets hancuffed he is brought to a strange place by what seems to be variants of Ultron, the robot that Iron Man built with Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The building spepculated to be the location of The Illuminati. In the MCU The Illuminati is an organization enlisted to protect the multiverse with the leaders of each main group within the MCU (The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, etc.) being members of the Illuminati.
And one of the most desired superhero groups to be in the MCU are the X-Men and now that reality may finally be coming true as Sir Patrick Stweart is reprising his role as Charles Xavier once more in this installment. We don’t see his face in the trailer, but as Strange looks up at the shadowy figure we can distinctly tell it’s him based on his voice.
Then one of the coolest and most unique shots in this entire trailer is when Strange and Chavez are falling through multiple different star portals and briefly visit alternate universes. One being that dinosaur planet called “Savage Land” before crashing into another reality but this time Strange and Chavez are spiltting apart as Strange yells into the camera.
Then one of the biggest and craziest moments that was teased before, we see Strange in a room, potentially the sanctum as we see one of the windows in a lalter shot, but the walls have been torn away to reveal a swirling portal. Then the image siwthces to Sinister Strange, a version of Doctor Strange who choose to do entirely evill deeds in his universe, tells Strange “Things just got out of hand.”
An immediate transition to a wall being exploded by a glowing figure, allegedly Superior Iron Man a member of the Illuminati though it could also be Monica Rambeau or another figure such as a variant of Captain Marvel. The figure is flying towards Wanda who somehow found the Illuminati!
She blocks the attack and in an explosion of red we transition back to the Karma Taj being attacked by whaterver the shadowy fog is and glowing cracks on the ground. Then we jump back to Chavez and two other figure inside of a building but by the dust falling from the ceiling it can be assumed that they are inside a building at the Karma Taj as well.
Then we shift back to Strange, kneeling on the ground and holding his side as if he got hit by whatever force was attacking the Karma Taj while Wanda, or the Scarlet Witch based on the subtitles, does a voice over as she says “You break the rules…”
We see this tentacle monster which was shown during the teaser trailer for the film, throwing a bus at Chavez and Strange. The latter saws it in half wiht magic as the Scarlet Witch’s voice over continues “...and become the hero” she says.
The sceen switches again to show Strange looking up at a statue of himself before the screen fades to black and the Scarlet Witch is talking to Strange now, “I do it and I become the enemy.” she finishes.
It is speculated that the scene where she is talking to Strange is during the orchard scene previously showed in the trailer due to Strange’s outfit being the same. We get a glimpse at Wanda’s Westview home where we see her as the Scarlet Witch and then we see Wanda looking at her and reaching out to her.
“That doesn’t seem fair.” Wanda says before we transition to Mordo trying to break Strang eout of the handcuffs placed on him. The Karma Taj then explodes and with a quick jump cut we see Chavez scream as she jumps towards something off screen. Her jump then makes for a beautiful jump cut where we see a magic explosion before transitioning once again to show Wong fighting the tentacle monster in New York.
Then it switches to a bloodied image of Wanda in the Illuminati Building and the camera zooms in on her eye before it fades to black. We see Wong scream out to Strange floating in the sky by this mountainous area but surrounding him are this shadowy figures seemingly reaching out towards something. And then the title card and the date for the film is shown on screen.
And that was the Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness trailer! The film comes out May 6, 2022 but the closer to the date there will be more discussions about the film on The Multiverse of Theories podcast!
