The end of an era is coming to a close with MCU’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man; however, Peter Parker can’t catch a break even when the world around him is turning to dust.
From the trailer footage, we’ll start the movie automatically where the last one, Spider-Man: Far From Home, left off. Through the Daily Bugle, Mysterio reveals to the world that Parker is Spider-Man.
A whirlwind of panic ensues as Peter races out of everyone’s view with MJ in his arms, trying to process what had happened. He goes to court and later meets up with Doctor Strange who preforms a spell to attempt to make the world forget that he is Spider-Man. After that, the story line is still a bit unknown.
Fans know they’ll be seeing old and beloved villains like Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sand-Man, and Lizard return in this film. It also seems like Doc Ock will be helping Peter somewhat by explaining what his universe’s Peter Parker is like with Doctor Strange. But otherwise, their motivations are pretty much unknown except for the fact they showed up in a new reality and are going after Spider-Man.
But with the old villains returning, it’s not a surprise the fans are theorizing the return of Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Grafield’s Spider-Man returning once more to reprise the role of their respective Peter Parker’s.
Garfield is denying his involvement in the film even though there have been many leaks of his costume, him on set, and even leaked footage of him in the suit whiling filming on set. Yet, Kevin “No Spoilers” Fiege is making sure that Garfield reveals nothing of his involvement within the film.
Maguire though? He didn’t even try. A fan walked up to to him and asked if he was in the film. He simply smiled and winked before continuing on his day. While it’s not any confirmation he’s in the film, but the fact his suit was hanging up next to Garfield and Holland’s is more than enough for fans.
But the last nail in the coffin to confirm Maguire and Garfield are in the film, The second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. towards the end of the trailer, Holland jumped towards Sand-Man, Electro, and Lizard to begin what is considered the “final battle”. However, Holland is only jumping towards Sand-Man, Electro is higher than him but could be considered fighting Holland unless you have a keen eye.
It was Lizard that revealed the truth, because he’s too far below Holland to even hit him during the clip. The last clue to confirm their involvement would be in the Brazilian cut of the trailer where the Lizard’s head gets knocked to the side by some invisible force that could only be one of the Spider-Men besides Tom Holland hitting the villain.
Though even with all these clues hinting at their presence in the film, that doesn’t mean that they are confirmed to be in it. Garfield and Maguire are both loved as Peter Parker, it’d be amazing to see the Spider-verse collide with the MCU and bring them over with their villains, seeing them fight on the big screen once more.
