To choose this course, you should have completed the S3 Engineering Science course. Physics is also desirable.
For both levels, you work through several theory and practical tasks across three units - Circuit Design, Circuit Simulation, and Circuit Construction.
National 4 pupils will need to complete each unit with some paperwork, as well as the final Added Value Unit model to complete and pass the course. This will be theory based, using computer software to simulate circuits and build circuits using breadboards and soldering.
National 5, you will have an exam that makes up 30% of your final grade that focuses on components, tools and machines, and safety in circuit building. The remaining 70% is your Course Assessment model which combines skills from all three units to produce a product set by the SQA.
Practical electronic engineering courses at college or apprenticeships would be your next steps after this course. It is also useful for anyone going to university to study electrical engineering as you will build some practical skills and knowledge.
